Arteta warns fans Arsenal project will 'take some time'

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup has been made with holders Manchester City facing Wycombe Wanderers and Manchester United handed a reunion against former boss David Moyes and West Ham United.

2022 marks the competition's 62nd anniversary and the forthcoming round is the early-season promised land for many Football League clubs hoping to draw a Premier League giant.

The draw has served up just that as some salivating fixtures will take place in the week commencing Monday, September 20.

Liverpool will face Norwich City at Carrow Road, while Arsenal, who beat West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday to earn their first victory of the campaign, will face AFC Wimbledon.

Chelsea are set to meet Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge and Tottenham Hotspur, runners up in 2021, have been scheduled to face manager Nuno Espirito Santo's former club Wolves.

Manchester City are looking to win the League Cup for a fourth successive season

Holders Manchester City will face League One Wycombe and are looking to win an unprecedented fifth consecutive League Cup, a feat which would surpass Liverpool's four-in-a-row in the 1980s.

A total of 32 teams will compete for a place in the fourth round as the competition welcomes the seven Premier League sides participating in European tournaments in 2020-21.

Manchester United are the last club other than City to win the competition, beating Southampton 3-2 in the 2017 final.

This season's final will take place on 27 February in 2022, a return to a more familiar final date.

Last term's decider took place in April in order to allow fans attend the game in Wembley as City beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

In a change for this campaign, 2022’s winners will also automatically guarantee a spot in the 2022/23 UEFA Conference League with victory.

It is also worth noting that ties will be decided via a penalty shoot-out if the scores are level after 90 minutes, rather than playing 30 minutes of extra-time like in years gone by, barring in the semi-final and final.
