Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Manchester United ended in explosive fashion ahead of a move to Al-Nassr and he has now been backed to make yet another return to Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United in acrimonious circumstances but could yet return to Old Trafford.

That is according to the Portuguese forward’s former teammate Wes Brown, who has backed the now Al-Nassr star to have a third spell as a Red Devil. Ronaldo at first represented the club between 2003 and 2009 ahead of a then record move to Real Madrid.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner then returned in 2021 and spent 18 months with the club. But an explosive interview with Piers Morgan saw the remainder of his deal cancelled, opening the door to a move to the Saudi side.

But Brown has backed him to return once again - and not necessarily as a player. Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Champions League betting, he said: “When it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United in some capacity you can never say never.

“Obviously when he left the second time we were all disappointed because he had been one of United’s best ever players, it was disappointing how it ended and I think he could return to try and make amends for the sour ending.

“Even in his first season back at the club he scored over 20 goals. I think the exit was a bit over the top but for him to come back in some way. I’d love it.”

Brown is not the only former United star to suggest that Ronaldo could come back to Old Trafford. Another of his ex-teammates Louis Saha also suggested earlier this year that he could potentially be in the dugout at some point in the future.

He said: "Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day, that could be as a coach or even a manager

"His second spell didn’t end how everyone had hoped and you can see why that frustrated him, he didn’t see the same formula and didn’t see the passion from young players that he had been used to seeing.

"Now he will know that he needs to find a new way to communicate when he becomes a coach, which maybe isn’t as harsh or direct as it was when he was at the club. He will work out how to be successful and use all his knowledge to do that, we’ve seen Roy Keane go into management and have success. Cristiano will understand what he needs to do as a manager and I see no reason why he wouldn’t be a success."

As it stands, Ronaldo has shown no desire to move into management. It has been suggested that retirement is not on his mind any time soon. He also remains on top form for Al-Nassr having netted four goals in five games in all competitions for the side so far this season.
