Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott faces a number of weeks on the sidelines after fracturing his foot during the international break.

Elliott, 21, is likely to be out until until at least late October, with the blow coming following a frustrating start to the season for the former Fulham youngster.

Despite starring in pre-season for the Reds, Elliott failed to start any of Liverpool's first three Premier League matches of the season, with new boss Arne Slot preferring Dominik Szoboszlai in the more advanced midfield role.

Elliott has only managed seven minutes on the pitch after he came on as a late substitute for Mo Salah in the 2-0 win over Brentford.

Elliott had been hoping to pick up some much needed minutes with the Young Lions side, but he was immediately withdrawn from international duty after reporting with the problem.

The blow comes at a crucial period for new Reds boss Slot, with Elliott ruled out of the block of seven matches before the next international break and potentially beyond.
