GLASGOW – Starting this year, paddlefish anglers will have new options for tagging harvested paddlefish. There are no more colored plastic tags to attach to the harvested fish. Paddlefish tags now mirror big game tag options and validation requirements. When a paddlefish is harvested, the angler should complete the tagging requirements before the carcass is tied up to shore, stored in a cooler, cleaned or filleted, removed from the harvest location, or the angler leaves the harvest site. When purchasing a tag, anglers have the choice of a paper...

Water is not just a resource in Montana—it is the lifeblood of ranching. It sustains our livestock, our land, and the rural communities that form the backbone of the Treasure State. For generations, Montana ranchers have depended on reliable, practical access to water to keep operations viable, especially in times of drought and uncertainty. Since 1884, the Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) has been a leading voice in protecting water rights in Montana. That mission has never been more critical than it is today. In recent months, a c...

I am writing in support of Ric Holden because character and integrity still matter in public service. Our communities need leaders who work for the people, listen to local concerns, and remain grounded in common-sense values rather than political agendas or outside interests. I have known and worked with Ric for over 30 years. I served with him in the Montana Legislature from 1995 to 2013. Ric Holden has shown a commitment to responsible government by supporting efforts to keep taxes and spending under control. At a time when families,...

He conducted himself always in a professional manner and used common...

An exciting opportunity is coming to Sidney since Fresh Harvest purchased the former Nortana Grain property, April 16. Fresh Harvest will process red lentils, and will be the first in the country to produce atta, a flour made from durum wheat used in flatbreads such as naan. One of the first things that had to be determined was the quality of atta that could be obtained from durum wheat grown locally. A pilot was done last summer, and Montana's excellent quality wheat ultimately created...

I’ve had many people ask for my thoughts on Brandon Ler’s race on June 2nd. While I prefer to stay out of other district’s races, because his district overlaps with my county – and because I worked with him in Helena – I’d like to share what I saw firsthand. Brandon was tasked with leading as Speaker of the House through one of the most challenging legislative sessions in recent memory, during conflicts he had no part in making. Yet he led with steady, principled leadership rooted in the Eastern Montana conservative values that sent him to...

Politics never seems to calm down or become reasonable. National politics are over the top, and unfortunately state politics are becoming much the same. The Montana Legislature creates a unique challenge for Eastern Montana. Of 100 Representatives, only about 10 or 11 are east of Billings. Our region is far more effective when our own hold leadership roles and can advocate for Eastern Montana’s interests. When Austin Knudsen served as Speaker, and now with Brandon Ler serving as Speaker, it has been very good for Eastern Montana. I strongly b...

Glendive — State House candidate Ric Holden has announced that, if elected, he will introduce legislation on the first day of the Montana legislative session to exempt Social Security benefits from state income taxes. Holden emphasized that Montana seniors are facing mounting financial pressures as the cost of living continues to rise. “Our senior citizens are being squeezed from every direction,” Holden said. “Housing costs, prescription medications, and electric utility bills are all increasing, while many retirees are forced to live on fixe...

Today’s political climate often produces dishonest candidates whose empty promises and double speak has deprived Montana voters of honest representation in Helena. Rather than serving the interests of their constituents, politicians kneel at the altar of dark money, lobbyists, and out of state interests and we have their voting record to prove it. An old timer once told me that “Politics breeds cynicism”. It should surprise no one that Montanans feel disconnected, with many saying “what’s the point in voting, I’ll just stay home”. It’s...
