About Axe Hill
Axe Hill is located in the Klein Karoo wine region known for its fortified wines. The vineyard was established on the Wesoewer in Calitzdorp in 1993. The name comes from stone hand tools which were found on the farm and said to be used by Prehistoric humans.
Calitzdorp is known as the Port Capital of South Africa and wine grape farming benefits from hot, dry arid conditions. The very first vintage of 1997 Axe Hill Cape Vintage Port was awarded with 5 stars in the John Platter Guide. Only one vintage port is produced each year from Portuguese varieties including Tinta Barroca, Souz�o and Touriga Nacional.
A unique Dry White Port is made using Chenin Blanc grapes from the region and bottling combines old and young vintages.
