About Riebeek Cellars
Up against the slopes of Kasteelberg in the arms of the Riebeek Valley is Riebeek Cellar. With a Mediterranean typical of the Western Coast and fertile soil of the valley, it could only mean that the grapes have ample reason grow beautifully and produce great wines. It was established in 1941, but wine making in this region goes back as far as 1661 when Dutch explorer Pieter Cruythoff found the valley and began producing wine. The following cultivars thrive in the region such as Shiraz, Chardonnay and Chenin blanc. Their team of three winemakers, cellar master and viticulturalist ensure that the process is carefully guided from the vines to the cellar.
The estate prides itself in sticking to the philosophy of Intergrated Production of Wine in South Africa whereby chemical intervention is decreased and waste management improved. They form a part of WWF's Biodiversity in Wine Initiative (BWI) which ensures they serve to protect renosterbos and strive towards more natural systems of making fine wines.
