Diego Pavia was "turnt" after beating Alabama

Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia had an expletive celebration after his role in defeating SEC rival Alabama 40-25 for the first time in 40 years through their program history.

In a monumental upset, Vanderbilt shocked the college football world by defeating the No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide, who were favored to win the matchup by nearly 25 points. Commodore fans erupted in celebration and stormed FirstBank Stadium, marking the first time Vanderbilt leveled a top-five-ranked team.

Pavia was instrumental in Vanderbilt's win, completing 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. The senior QB's precision and leadership kept the Commodores in control throughout the game, and they never lost the lead from their first score, which was the first against the Crimson Tide since 2007.

During a post-game interview surrounded by a rowdy crowd of Vanderbilt fans, Pavia's adrenaline surged and saw him grab the microphone from reporter Alyssa Lang and shout, "Vandy, we're ------- turnt!" The fans in the high-energy atmosphere received his unfiltered burst as they continued to flock around him joyfully.

"Games like this change your life, you know what I mean?," he continued. "It's all about hype nowadays, and I don't like it like that. But it's the reality of NIL and all that stuff. But, you know, I just stay grounded, be where my feet are, and every single day, tomorrow, I gotta work."

Pavia’s post-game outburst quickly caught fire online, with fans praising his energy and the professionalism of SEC Network reporter Alyssa Lang, who conducted the interview. One fan commented, "Alyssa Lang is a pro. She did not flinch," as more fans acknowledged her composure on live TV.

Another fan added humor to the moment by dubbing Pavia "Manziel 2.0," referencing the famously fiery former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, known for his on-field swagger and bold personality. Fans have compared the two, with Pavia courting controversy in the past for allegedly peeing on a rival team's logo.

When he was quarterback at New Mexico State, Pavia found himself in hot water when a video, published by KOB, showed Pavia him allegedly urinating on University of New Mexico’s logo on their practice field. Two months later, he admitted his regret and revealed th incident happened before the 2023 season.

“I learned to grow as an individual. You know a lot of us make mistakes whether it’s on the field or off the field,” Pavia told KTSM last year. “You just keep the people you really, really know around you that you really love and that you want to be around and just be faithful to them and be faithful to God and he’ll always take care of you.”

Before Pavia transferred to Vanderbilt, the Commodores were coming off a tough 2-10 record, including not winning a single game in the SEC. The team now sits at 3-2 and secured one of the biggest conference wins in program history. Pavia is off to a hot start with 721 passing yards and six touchdowns through the season's first five games. He has yet to throw an interception, showcasing his accuracy and senior leadership under pressure.

With a QBR of 80.7, he currently ranks 19th among all college football quarterbacks, solidifying his status as a rising star in the college football landscape. Before officially joining Vanderbilt this year, Pavia played two seasons at New Mexico State. Pavia led the Aggies to their second 10-win season in program history and threw for 26 touchdowns last season. He won the Conference USA Player of the Year award in 2023 and second-team All-CUSA honors.
