Free agent duo train with Swansea City after Luke Williams admission (original) (raw)

Swansea City are monitoring defender Cyrus Christie and utility man Adam Reach this week, with the free agent duo training with the club this week.

Both Christie, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Swansea in 2022, and Reach, a player with extensive Championship experience, will be spending time with Williams’ team over the international break.

Williams last week said the Swans were hoping to take a closer look at the free agent market during this international break.

The Swans boss has previously said that his side will be monitoring the free agent market for options that could potentially further strengthen the squad, amid concerns over shortcomings in certain key areas, particularly up front.

Asked whether there were a few possible names in mind, Williams revealed. "Yes. And I'll tell you them when I can. Potentially we're having a look at a player in the international break when it's a bit calmer.

"Otherwise a player coming in to train with us so we can see them and they can see us is very, very difficult when you're playing three games in a week and travelling. So, we're possibly looking at the international break."

Christie, who celebrated his 32nd birthday last month, was let go by Hull City at the end of last season, while 31-year-old Reach left West Brom in the summer after three years at The Hawthorns.

Republic of Ireland international Christie can operate on either side of the defence and as a centre-back could offer Swansea an additional option across their back four. He played 28 times for Hull last season after joining from the Swans, for whom he played 23 games and scored three goals in the second half of 2021-22 while on loan from Fulham.

Swansea had shown interest in securing Christie, who proved a hit with supporters at the Swansea.com Stadium, permanently following his loan stint at the club, but he opted to sign with Hull instead.

Reach, a left-footed player known for his spectacular goals, has spent a significant portion of his career as a winger, although he has also played in midfield and ended his tenure at West Brom as a left-back.

He featured 19 times in the 2023-24 season, despite a quad injury sidelining him for part of the campaign.

Williams, who has overseen a decent start to the season with his team in 11th place in the Championship table, has spoken about being light in certain areas and would likely welcome the chance to bolster his squad with some experience, while both players bring with them great versatility, which will likely appeal to the Swans boss.
