Liam Gallagher teases support acts for Cardiff Oasis gigs (original) (raw)

Liam Gallagher has whipped up an online frenzy by heavily hinting at who will support Oasis on their eagerly-awaited and massively in-demand reunion tour across the UK and Ireland next summer. The legendary Manchester band announced in August that they would play their first gigs in 15 years in 2025.

Shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Manchester’s Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, Murrayfield in Edinburgh, and Croke Park in Dublin were all sold out within hours, with thousands of fans left disappointed as the scramble for tickets reached fever pitch. Such is the demand, tickets are still being sold on certain online resale sites for huge sums of money, although Oasis themselves have previously warned that tickets bought outside of Ticketmaster and Twickets will be cancelled.

While Oasis will obviously be the headline act at their comeback shows, which are some of the most anticipated concerts in the UK for a generation, speculation has been rife about who will support the band at the huge events next summer. The band’s iconic lead singer, Liam Gallagher, fuelled this speculation on X - formerly Twitter - on Friday night. He posted: “Richard Ashcroft or Manic street preachers as support”. Then, just four minutes later, he posted: “The manics it is.” But then five minutes later he wrote: “Only kidding we never set sail without the 1 and only RICARDO he’s our boy from day DOT come aboard Rkid.”

While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it would not be unexpected for Richard Ashcroft to support Oasis. The singer - former frontman of The Verve - has a close connection with Oasis. The band supported The Verve in the early 1990s, and then the roles were reversed later in the decade when Oasis became the biggest name in British music. Such was the connection between the two bands that the Oasis song ‘Cast No Shadow’ was apparently written about Ashcroft.

As well as the speculation about The Verve and the Manic Street Preachers, Gallagher also posted on X about another popular 1990s band - Cast. He wrote: “All we need now is to be CAST away on our jolly travels,” before he later posted: “Just spoke to the CHEF here it is OASIS RICHARD ASHCROFT CAST you are welcome see you nxt year.”

None of the bands mentioned by Gallagher have confirmed they are set to support Oasis in 2025, but it will be a tour that most bands will be desperate to be a part of given the size of the audience across 19 shows in the UK and Ireland. Oasis have also announced a run of huge shows in North America, taking in Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. The band has already confirmed that US rockers Cage and Elephant will support them on the North American tour.
