Wishing Pat Jennings a very happy and healthy 81st birthday. Pat joined us in 1964 and made 591 appearances which has only been surpassed by Gary Mabbutt and Steve Perryman. He kept an astonishing 177 clean sheets of those 591 appearances.

Secretary of State
@hilarybennmp
on the violent attack in Belfast last night: "There is no place for such violence on our streets. All of us have a responsibility now to urge calm and let the police do their job."
Replying to @hilarybennmp
The scenes of disorder we have witnessed in some parts of Northern Ireland this evening are only damaging communities and putting innocent lives at risk. There is no justification at all for this type of thuggery. I echo the call from the PSNI for this violence to end now. /2
People have been rightly shocked by the brutal attack in north Belfast, but the police must be allowed to do their job so the law can take its course. /1

This is a live PSNI investigation and I have spoken to the Chief Constable Jon Boutcher. We all have a responsibility to urge calm while the police do their job so that the perpetrator of this horrific attack faces the full force of the law. /2
The attack last night in Belfast was deeply shocking and all our thoughts are with the victim, who is seriously injured in hospital, and with his loved ones. I would like to thank the individuals who showed extraordinary bravery in coming to his aid. /1- Hilary Benn reposted

82 years ago, on the beaches of Normandy, brave British and Allied forces changed the course of history forever. We must never forget the service and sacrifice of those courageous men and women. Our debt to them can never be repaid.
