My friends and I are going to Yosemite next weekend and I had a few questions.
1. We are planning on camping at Camp 4. I read on nps.gov that the ranger usually gets there at 8:30am to assign people their sites. Do you think this early in April it would be that busy? If we don't end up getting a spot, I know we can get a camping permit, but where can we camp in the Valley?
2. This is probably a really stupid question, so bear with me. I was looking at yosemitehikes.com and they give a lot of information on what hikes we could go on/where to start etc. My question is, since it's so early in spring some roads are still closed. That just means the car access is closed but the trails are still accessible right?

Hello! I'm new to this community, but not to Yosemite! My family has been going to Yosemite for about fifty years now, and I've been going since I was 2 years old (I'm 24 now). I've only missed going three years. It's home for me.
I'm going on the annual trip next week, and am bringing along my friend who has never been tent-camping. I'm wondering what would be the best things to show her the first go-around? So far, the only things I can think of are the Mirror Lake Loop, Indian Village, Lower Yosemite Falls, and Happy Isles. She doesn't think she needs a proper pair of hiking boots, so I'm afraid to take her on some of the rougher hikes that I'm used to.
Oh, and the Telegraph fire going on right now is now 60% contained!
I filmed this through a keyhole in a locked home in one of the historical villages. Is this old news or bad omens...?
i am going to yosemite tomorrow, but someone is trying to send me a package... is there any way i can have them send it to the yosemite valley post office, and have the post office hold it until i get there?
or rather, does anyone know where i can get the phone number for that post office?
Does anyone have any kind of educated guess as to when the road to Glacier Point in Yosemite might be opened this year?
my boyfriend and i are planning to visit and stay around or in yosemite national park within the next two weeks.
we'd like to rent a cabin and are looking for something under the price of $100 per night.
one bedroom with a full bathroom
any suggestions for a cabin under $100 that is located in a nice, safe area would be great.

Greetings! We are thinking of going to Yosemite this summer and were wondering if you could recommend things to do, other than hiking and looking at nature. We don't fish, but other than that, we're open to ideas. Ideas about extreme or unusual things to do are particularly welcome :) Thanks in advance.
i regret that i have to be the bearer of bad news, but i thought that all fellow yosemite lovers should be aware that steven medley, president of the yosemite association died to day in a single vehicle auto accident. He had worked in the park for over 30 years and worked hard to give his full support to the park. for more details see yosemite.org, the yosemite association's official website.

I'm trying to figure out a route from San Jose, CA to Goldfield, NV and just about every route has me going through Yosemite along highway 120, which I understand to be closed until at least late May - I'm guessing later this year due to all the rain/snow California has had this year. I'd like to avoid going TOO far out of my way, but I can't figure out a decent way around Yosemite. The next best bet seems to be going north to Sonora and taking the Sonora Pass, but that might be closed too. I have trouble believing that there's really no other way around it (hellllooooooo Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!!) and I'd like to avoid going all the way to Reno and then coming back down the Nevada/California border, but I'm starting to think that's my best bet. Is anyone aware of a winter/spring route that goes around Yosemite??

A bit of a long shot, but does anyone know or can find out who took this photo? It's a picture of Half Dome (I think) ... that I really, really want, but the person I know who has it cut off the info (if there was any to begin with) when she got it mounted.
Bought a year or two ago at the Ansel Adams Gallery (but I don't think it's one of his). And no, they don't carry it anymore (I checked last time I was there).
