The studied rodents include members of some cosmopolitan species (Mus musculus, Rattus norvegicus, Rattus rattus), as well as endemic and narrow-areal species (Meriones vinogradovi, Spermophilus xanthoprymnus, Microtus schidlovskii, Mesocricetus brandti, Sciurus anomalus). The taxonomical identity of the nematode species reported by previous authors is discussed with regard to present knowledge about helminth fauna of rodents. Our review concludes that 34 nematode species are present in rodents in Armenia, five of which are identified for the first time in rodents from the territory of Armenia, and three of which (Trichinella spiralis, Trichostrongylus colubriformis, Trichostrongylus skrjabini) are able to parasitize humans.

Porkworms (Trichinella) circulate in natural biocenoses among wild carnivorous mammals, wild boars, and rodents. Trichinosis cases are recorded in synanthropic animals. Carnivorous mammals form the basis for the parasitic system of trichinosis. The animals are infected with Trichinella through carnivorism, necrophagy, and cannibalism. The transport Trichinella vectors, necrophagous insects, naturally play an insignificant role in the spread of trichinosis. Trichinella infection in animals occurs more commonly through necrophagia and cannibalism during winter months. Not only animals, but also man, play a great role in the spread of trichinosis. Infested wild and synanthropic animals inhabiting the Kursk Region may carry the risk for Trichinella infection in the population.

In total 499 individuals of twelve species from four families of rodents were examined and total prevalence by helminths was 46,3%. Thirty two species of hel-minths were recorded, including one species of trematodes, thirteen species of cestodes and eighteen species of nematodes. Three species of nematodes: Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Sy-phacia frederici, Heligmosomum costellatum and one species of cestodes: Catenotaenia hent-toneni were in the dominant helminth group. Low value of helminth species richness in Myodes glareolus is detected and we suggest possible explanation for this pattern.

Helminths of birds remain poorly studied in the Central-Chernozem region and in the Central-Chernozem State Nature biosphere reserve named after V.V. Alyokhin (Kursk oblast) they are not studied at all. Therefore the study of helminths of birds which died from different natural causes was set up in the Central-Chernozem reserve. Material and methods. Totally were collected 17 carcasses of 3 species of thrushes: 6 of blackbird (T. merula), 6 of song thrush (T. philomelos) and 5 of fieldfare (T. pilaris) from 2012 to 2016. Results and discussion. Totally was found 11 species of helminths from 2 phyla: Platyhelminthes with 1 species of trematodes – Lutztrema attenuatum and 2 species of cestodes: Dilepis indula, Passerilepis crenata and Nematoda with 3 species of Dorylaimia: Pterothominx exilis, Eucoleus contortus, Capillariidae gen. sp. and 5 species of Chromadoria: Syngamus merulae, Dispharynx nasuta, Spiruridae gen. sp.1, Spiruridae gen. sp.2, Porrocaecum ensicaudatum. The highest total helminth species richness in fieldfare (9 species), lower in blackbird (5) and song thrush (6). The highest helminth species richness of infracommunities in fieldfare (mean – 3,2, max – 6), lower in blackbird (mean –2, max – 4) and song thrush (mean – 1,6, max – 5). The most prevalent species are D. undula (11 from 14 infected), P. ensicaudatum (8 from 14 infected), D. nasuta (5 from 14 infected). However, because of the used method sample is too small for making any conclusions and further research and prolongation of collecting of birds is needed to shed light on infection patterns in the helminth communities of these species of thrushes.

Helminth fauna of rodents was investigated in the Central Chernozem State Nature Reserve (Kursk R... more Helminth fauna of rodents was investigated in the Central Chernozem State Nature Reserve (Kursk Region, Russia) in 2012-2014.

High degree of infection of carnivores with helminthes is determined. Helminth eggs have been detected in 98 % of animal fecal samples. In 94,1 % of foxes a mixed infection caused by A. alata, Capillariidae spp., T. leonina, Toxocara spp., U. stenocephala and cestodes has been determined. Carnivores of martens family were infected with Capillaria spp. and cestodes. 4,9 % of foxes were infected with one helminth species. The most common helminthes in carnivores are Capillariiidae spp. High density of carnivores in small areas of nature reserve may cause widespread helminthosis.
