Brixius, Die Mitglieder des Kardinalkollegiums von 1130-1181, p. 55, no. 12, says that he was rector, procurator or episcopal administrator of the church of S. Geminiano, Modena, from 1148 until 1156; that church is the cathedral of the diocese.

Participated in the papal election of 1153, in which Pope Anastasius IV was elected. Subscribed papal bulls issued betwen September 8, 1153 and November 30, 1154. Participated in the papal election of 1154, in which Pope Adrian IV was elected. Subscribed papal bulls issued between December 19, 1154 and July 30, 1159. Legate in Lombardy. Participated in the papal election of 1159, in which Pope Alexander III was elected. Subscribed papal bulls issued between October 15, 1159 and March 1, 1174. Legate in Spain.
