Seems to me that GPL 3 being DFSG free is a very important thing regarding the future of Debian and Ubuntu. The ftpmasters usually do not make official statements about licenses, but since some GPL v3 software was recently accepted in the archive we can reasonably conclude that it is considered a free license.
