This is not my idea of a typical folly:- ie, a Gothic tower perched alone high on a hill, but none the less it is a very impressive structure.
It is to be found amongst the 38 acres of Williamson Park, Lancaster, and is reputed to have cost nearly £90,000 to build in 1907.
It consists of Portland stone rising to a height of 100 feet at the top of the dome and was designed by John Belcher. The builder was millionaire Lord Ashton who had it erected as a monument to his wife.Co-Ords: 348900 461320 / SD 489613
