Salzwedel-Meteorit, Hohenlangenbeck, Salzwedel, Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Deutschland
Fell 14 November 1985. Stone, 43 g.
Ordinary chondrite, brecciated (LL5, br).
A small mass was found in the woods after a fireball had been seen. Total iron content (20.94 wt%) and olivine composition (Fa 28.6) are characteristic of the LL chondrites, ordinary chondrites with relatively low total iron content. LL chondrites account for slightly less than 10% of all witnessed and classified meteorite falls.
The Salzwedel meteorite is by far the smallest of the 4 witnessed LL falls recovered in Germany. The main mass (34.2g) has been held at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.
