Argyrodite (original) (raw)
A valid IMA mineral species - grandfathered
About ArgyroditeHide
This section is currently hidden. Click the show button to view.
Up to about 40 mol-% of the sulfur may be replaced by selenium (Wang et al., 1984). Intermediate members of the argyrodite-canfieldite series are common and many specimens of that series prove to be different members of the series than the label suggests.
Crystal System:
Orthorhombic
Name:
Named by Julius A. Weisbach in 1886 from the Greek αργυρώδης ("argyrodes"), "silver-bearing", in allusion to its silver content.
Type locality material is usually botryoidal with crystallized surfaces are uncommon.
