- Die Diamond Light Source ist eine Synchrotronstrahlungsquelle in Oxfordshire, England. Der Speicherring hat einen Umfang von 560 Metern und beschleunigt Elektronen auf eine Energie von 3 GeV. Diamond ist auf die Erzeugung elektromagnetischer Strahlung mit Photonenenergien um 10 keV optimiert, generiert aber nicht nur Röntgenstrahlung, sondern auch Licht längerer Wellenlängen bis zum Infrarot-Bereich. Der Betrieb wurde Anfang Februar 2007 aufgenommen. Die Bau- und Betreibergesellschaft Diamond Light Source Ltd gehört zu 86 % dem britischen Staat und zu 14 % der Stiftung Wellcome Trust. Direktor (CEO) von Diamond Light Source ist seit 1. Januar 2014 der Chemiker Andrew Harrison. Er ist damit Nachfolger des deutschen Physikers Gerhard Materlik, der Diamond von der Gründung 2001 bis zum Jahr 2013 geleitet hatte. (de)

- Diamond Light Source (or Diamond) is the UK's national synchrotron light source science facility located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire. Its purpose is to produce intense beams of light whose special characteristics are useful in many areas of scientific research. In particular it can be used to investigate the structure and properties of a wide range of materials from proteins (to provide information for designing new and better drugs), and engineering components (such as a fan blade from an aero-engine) to conservation of archeological artifacts (for example Henry VIII's flagship the Mary Rose). There are more than 50 light sources across the world. With an energy of 3 GeV, Diamond is a medium energy synchrotron currently operating with 32 beamlines. (en)
