Beispielsweise erstellte 1831 zum Geburtstag ihres Neffen ein handgemachtes Büchlein über die drei Bären, und schon 1813 erwähnte Southey die Geschichte Freunden gegenüber. 1894 entdeckte der Erzählforscher Joseph Jacobs die Fabel Scrapefoot („Kratzfuß“), in der ein Fuchs der Antagonist ist und die Southeys Geschichte verblüffend ähnelt. Diese Fabel dürfte in mündlicher Überlieferung vor Southeys Version existiert haben. Möglicherweise hörte Southey Scrapefoot, verwechselte jedoch den Begriff Vixen (Füchsin) mit einem Homonym für gerissene alte Frauen.Anderen Autoren nach war die alte Frau dagegen Southeys eigene Erfindung. (ru) غولديلوكس والدببة الثلاثة (بالإنجليزية: Goldilocks and the Three Bears) (العنوان الأصلي: قصة الدببة الثلاثة) هي حكاية خرافية بريطانية من القرن التاسع عشر توجد ثلاثة إصدارات منها. تحكي النسخة الأصلية من الحكاية عن امرأة عجوز سيئة السلوك تدخل منزل ثلاثة من الدببة أثناء تواجدهم خارجه. تجلس على كراسيهم، وتأكل بعضاً من ثريدهم، وتنام على أحد أسِرتهم. عندما تعود الدببة وتكتشفها، تستيقظ وتقفز من النافذة، ولا تُرى مرة أخرى. استبدلت النسخة الثانية للحكاية المرأة العجوز بفتاة صغيرة تدعى غولديلوكس (Goldilocks). (ar) "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" (originally titled "The Story of the Three Bears") is a 19th-century British fairy tale of which three versions exist. The original version of the tale tells of an obscene old woman who enters the forest home of three bachelor bears while they are away. She eats some of their porridge, sits down on one of their chairs and breaks it, and sleeps in one of their beds. When the bears return and discover her, she wakes up, jumps out of the window, and is never seen again. The second version replaced the old woman with a young girl named Goldilocks, and the third and by far best-known version replaced the original bear trio with Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. Należy zaznaczyć, że opowieści podobne do tej baśni, choć nieco się różniące, pojawiały się już wcześniej.
