Legnano, an Italian municipality of the Metropolitan City of Milan in the Alto Milanese, has a recorded history from the first mention of the to the present day. During the Middle Ages, Legnano was the site of an important battle wherein the Lombard League defeated Frederick Barbarossa. Because of that battle, Legnano is the only city other than Rome, capital of Italy, to be mentioned in the national anthem. Industry has had significant impact on Legnano's history and the municipality remains one of the most developed and industrialized in Italy. Grazie a questo scontro armato, Legnano è l'unica città, oltre a Roma, a essere citata nell'inno nazionale italiano. Legnano, che ha avuto una rilevante storia industriale, ancora nel XXI secolo è inserita in un contesto produttivo molto avanzato, che la colloca in una delle zone più sviluppate e industrializzate d'Italia.
