The old village lies at the foot of the imposing collegiate church in a green and wooded landscape. Nowadays, the city has several neighbourhoods: the old Hombourg, the old village of Hellering, urban areas with HLMs built in the 1950s-1960s and residential district. The inhabitants of the commune are known as Hombourgeois and Hombourgeoises. Aujourd'hui, le village du Vieux-Hombourg qui s’étend au pied de l’imposante église collégiale occupe un site remarquable, planté sur une colline gréseuse, se présentant dans un décor vert et boisé. Les vieux villages de Hellering et de Hombourg-Bas qui avaient formé à partir de la Révolution française la commune de Hombourg virent, après la Seconde Guerre mondiale l'adjonction de nombreux nouveaux quartiers, corollaire du boom économique et démographique. Riche de cette histoire, la ville de Hombourg-Haut dispose notamment d'un patrimoine architectural couvrant toutes les périodes depuis le Moyen-Âge, d'équipements scolaires (établissements du premier et second degré) ainsi que d'équipements sportifs et aires de jeux et de loisirs. Deux manifestations artistiques et culturelles jalonnent chaque année la vie locale: le Festival international Théodore Gouvy et le Carnaval avec sa cavalcade qui en marque l'apothéose.
