- The South Manchuria Railway (Japanese: 南満州鉄道, romanized: Minamimanshū Tetsudō; simplified Chinese: 南满洲铁道; traditional Chinese: 南滿洲鐵道; pinyin: Nánmǎnzhōu Tiědào), officially The South Manchuria Railway Company, Ltd. (南満州鉄道株式会社, kyujitai: 南滿洲鐵道株式會社, Minamimanshū Tetsudō Kabushikigaisha), Mantetsu (Japanese: 満鉄, romanized: Mantetsu) or Mantie (simplified Chinese: 满铁; traditional Chinese: 滿鐵; pinyin: Mǎntiě) for short, was a large of the Empire of Japan whose primary function was the operation of railways on the Dalian–Fengtian (Mukden)–Changchun (called Xinjing from 1931 to 1945) corridor in northeastern China, as well as on several branch lines. In 1905, after Russia's defeat in the Russo-Japanese War, this area was taken over by Japan as the South Manchuria Railway Zone. Mantetsu was established in 1906 to operate the railways taken over from the Russians. Subsequently, Mantetsu expanded by building new lines for itself and for Chinese-owned undertakings, and after the establishment of the puppet state of Manchukuo in 1932, it was also entrusted with the management of the Manchukuo National Railway. Between 1917 and 1925, Mantetsu was also responsible for the management of the Chosen Government Railway in Japanese-occupied Korea. However, it was also involved in nearly every aspect of the economic, cultural and political life of Manchuria, from power generation to agricultural research, for which reason it was often referred to as "Japan's East India Company in China". Nisshō Inoue, the founder of the interwar Japanese far-right militant organization Ketsumeidan (血盟団, League of Blood), was employed by Mantestu from 1909 to 1920. In 1945, the Soviet Union invaded and overran Manchukuo, and following Japan's defeat in the Pacific War, Mantetsu itself was dissolved by order of the American occupation authorities in occupied Japan. The railway was operated by the Soviets for a time, and handed over to China Railway after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Fengtian has been called Shenyang since 1945, and the line from there to Dalian is today part of the from Changchun to Dalian, whilst the Shenyang–Changchun section is now part of the Jingha Railway; the branch lines have also been part of China Railway since then. - 남만주철도주식회사(일본어: 南満州鉄道株式会社 미나미만슈테쓰도카부시키가이샤[*]), 약칭 만철(滿鐵)은 중국 동북 지방에 존재했던 일본 제국의 국책회사이다. 1906년 러일전쟁의 강화 조약인 포츠머스 조약에 의해 러시아로부터 양도받은 철도 및 부속지를 기반으로 설립되었으며, 1945년 일본 제국의 패망으로 제2차 세계 대전이 끝날 때까지 존재했다. 대체적으로 철도 사업에 주력했으나 광업, 제조업 등 광범위한 분야에 걸쳐 사업을 전개한 복합 기업의 성격을 띤 만주 식민화의 핵심 기관으로 기능하였다. 초기엔 다롄, 이후 신징에 본사를 두었다. 1945년에 소련에 의해 점령되어 실질적 기능을 상실하였고, 이후 연합군 최고사령부(GHQ)에 의해 해산되었다. 다른 의미로는 만철선(滿鐵線)으로 통칭하는 다롄~창춘~하얼빈 간의 철도 노선(남만주 본선 구간) 및 여기에 부속된 남만주철도 주식회사의 각 지선을 의미하기도 한다. 1920년대 말부터 1930년대 말까지 전 세계에 파장을 일으킨 대공황의 여파로 인해가 만주 지역 또한 피해를 입었다. 만철의 주요 거래 품목이었던 콩의 수요가 감소하고 수송량도 급격히 줄어들어 수송 운임 수입이 크게 떨어졌으며 의 판매 또한 부진했다. 당시 중국 본토에서 들어오는 수출 석탄의 가격에 비해 푸순탄의 가격이 비쌌기 때문이다. - Sydmanchuriska järnvägen, även känd som SMR och under sin japanska förkortning Mantetsu, var en del av Östra kinesiska järnvägen som byggdes i Manchuriet av Ryska imperiet åren 1898-1903 och löpte mellan Harbin och Port Arthur. Efter det ryska nederlaget i det rysk-japanska kriget avträddes järnvägen till Japan i den 5 september 1905. Japan fick också jurisdiktion över järnvägszonen som sträckte sig 62 meter ömse sidor om järnvägen. Den 7 juni 1906 ombildade den japanska regeringen järnvägen till ett eget järnvägsföretag, Minami Manshu Tetsudo Kabushiki-kaisha. Eftersom japanska medborgare och företag hade exterritoriella rättigheter i Kina kom den sydmanchuriska järnvägen att åtnjuta en särställning i Manchuriet och skyddades av japanska trupper i regionen och en egen polisstyrka. Efter 1916 började företaget satsa på en rad binäringar som stål, keramik, olja och spannmål, och blev centrum för ett japanskt affärsimperium i regionen. Fram till 1925 bedrev man även de koreanska järnvägarna. Changchun förblev centrum spårviddsväxling mellan normalspår och ryskt bredspår ända in på 1930-talet, då den Sydmanchuriska järnvägen tog över hela den Östra kinesiska järnvägen och konverterade den till normalspår. Efter den japanska lydstaten Manchukuos bildande 1931 fick Sydmanchuriska järnvägen en ännu mer central betydelse för de japanska intressena i Nordkina. Som en följd av det andra kinesisk-japanska kriget upplöstes den särskilda järnvägszonen den 5 november 1937. - Sydmanchuriska järnvägen, även känd som SMR och under sin japanska förkortning Mantetsu, var en del av Östra kinesiska järnvägen som byggdes i Manchuriet av Ryska imperiet åren 1898-1903 och löpte mellan Harbin och Port Arthur. Efter det ryska nederlaget i det rysk-japanska kriget avträddes järnvägen till Japan i den 5 september 1905. Japan fick också jurisdiktion över järnvägszonen som sträckte sig 62 meter ömse sidor om järnvägen. Den 7 juni 1906 ombildade den japanska regeringen järnvägen till ett eget järnvägsföretag, Minami Manshu Tetsudo Kabushiki-kaisha. (sv)
