The mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument is that part of the instrument which is placed partly in the player's mouth. Single-reed instruments, capped double-reed instruments, and fipple flutes have mouthpieces while exposed double-reed instruments (apart from those using ) and open flutes do not. The characteristics of a mouthpiece and reed can play a significant role on the sound of the instrument.

Las boquillas usan vibración para generar sonidos. Las boquillas de los instrumentos de la familia de viento-madera se introducen en la boca del intérprete y producen la vibración mediante el uso de cañas y en otros casos de cuerno o cualquier material suficientemente flexible, actualmente incluso se fabrican de materiales plásticos. Los instrumentos más representativos -a los que se denomina de viento madera- de este tipo de boquilla son: el saxo y el clarinete; el oboe y fagot en lugar de una boquilla donde apoyar la caña, utilizan una caña doble, al igual que muchos instrumentos tradicionales como la dulzaina, el doudouk, la bombarda, etc. Otros tipos de instrumentos que utilizan caña son los que la llevan encapsulada en una cámara por la que entra el aire, es el caso de la gaita o los oboes tradicionales del Tíbet. Il peut être en ébonite ou en métal (et aussi, de façon plus rare, en bois, en plastique ou en verre), avec une ligature permettant de fixer et maintenir l'anche. Le saxophone s'accorde avec les autres instruments en faisant légèrement varier l'enfoncement du bec (modulable grâce au liège entourant la fin du bocal). Plus le bec est enfoncé, plus le son est aigu et inversement, moins il l'est, plus le son est grave. L'enfoncement du bec a pour effet de modifier la longueur de la colonne d'air. L'allongement de celle-ci permet un son plus grave. Un bec peut aussi changer le son de l'instrument suivant la matière dans laquelle il est fait et surtout selon ses formes et dimensions (forme et taille de la chambre, ouverture...). Parmi les fabricants historiques de becs de saxophone figurent Selmer, Vandoren, Otto Link, Meyer, Berg Larsen, ou Bobby Dukoff. Depuis quelques années, de nouvelles techniques de conception de becs sont apparues telles que l'impression 3D, ce qui permet de créer des becs de saxophone sur-mesure. Cette innovation technologique a été le résultat de recherches menées dans le laboratoire de recherche scientifique et acoustique de l'Ircam grâce à deux acousticiens, fondateurs de Syos.
