- Tibor Gécsek (born 22 September 1964 in Szentgotthárd) is a retired male hammer thrower from Hungary. Gécsek is of Hungarian Slovenian descent. He won two consecutive World Championships bronze medals in 1993 and 1995. Later that year he received a four-year ban by the IAAF for a positive drugs test. The next year, however, IAAF shortened the maximum ban to two years. Gécsek was therefore reinstated after two years. His personal best throw was 81.68 metres, achieved in September 1988 in Szombathely, until he threw 82.87 metres to win the 1998 European Championships. This achievement earned him the title 1998 Hungarian Sportsman of the Year. Later that year he threw 83.68 metres in Zalaegerszeg to record his ultimate career best. Gécsek was elected Vice President of the on 10 November 2002. (en)

Mistrz Europy z Budapesztu (1998) i srebrny medalista czempionatu Starego Kontynentu ze Splitu (1990). Odniósł dwa zwycięstwa w zawodach pucharu świata. Jedenaście razy zdobywał złote medale mistrzostw Węgier, siedmiokrotnie poprawiał rekord kraju w rzucie młotem. W 1995 roku w jego organizmie wykryto sterydy i zdyskwalifikowano go na 4 lata. Han var i final vid Olympiska sommarspelen 1988 och blev då sexa. Vid EM 1990 blev han silvermedaljör efter Igor Astapkovitj. Vid såväl VM 1991 som vid Olympiska sommarspelen 1992 slutade han fyra. Däremot blev han bronsmedaljör vid både VM 1993 och 1995. Under 1995 stängdes han av för dopingbrott och var tillbaka till EM 1998 då han blev guldmedaljör efter ett kast på 82,87. Han blev sedan fyra vid VM 1999 i Sevilla. Vid Olympiska sommarspelen 2000 var han i final och slutade då sjua. Vid VM 2001 blev han åtta och hans sista stora final var EM 2002 då han slutade på en sjätte plats. 2002 valdes han till vicepresident i ungerska friidrottsförbundet. (sv)
