Després de reafirmar totes les resolucions passades sobre la situació a Xipre, inclosa la resolució 1251 (1999), el Consell va ampliar el mandat de la Força de les Nacions Unides pel Manteniment de la Pau a Xipre (UNFICYP) durant sis mesos més fins al 15 de desembre de 2002. The security council noted the call within the Secretary-General Kofi Annan's report for the authorities in Cyprus and Northern Cyprus to urgently address the humanitarian situation concerning missing persons. The council also welcomed efforts to sensitise United Nations peacekeeping personnel towards the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and other diseases. Extending UNFICYP's mandate, the resolution requested the secretary-general to report to the council by 1 December 2002 on the implementation of the current resolution. It also urged the Turkish Cypriot side to end restrictions imposed on 30 June 2000 on UNIFCYP operations and to restore the military status quo at Strovilia.
