Paixao went on to miss the best chance of the match midway through the second half with a free header from six yards. Hamilton's Simon Mensing toe-poked what would have been an own goal but the Israeli assistant referee judged St Mirren's Gareth Wardlaw offside. David Elia Biton, who along with countrymen Oren Bornstein, the other assistant, and referee Meir Levy were drafted into officiate after Scotland's own referees withdrew their labour due to recent criticism of their decisions. The result means both sides gain a point on Aberdeen. Accies are level on points with the Dons but Billy Reid's side remain bottom of the Scottish Premier League on goal difference while 10th-place St Mirren open up a three-point gap. Grant Gillespie, one of three changes in the Hamilton line-up, burst into the St Mirren box in the opening minutes but his progress was halted by John Potter's clearance. Marco Paixao and his twin brother Flavio, who also returned to the starting line-up, combined to set up a chance for Gary McDonald but the midfielder's shot looped high into the air before Buddies goalkeeper Craig Samson. At the other end, Wardlaw was unable to connect with David van Zanten's dangerous cross. A long-range effort by Hamilton's Gavin Skelton just missed the post as Hamilton continued to assert themselves. Dougie Imrie's free-kick was nodded on by Canning to Flavio Paixao, who hooked the ball over the crossbar with the goal gaping. St Mirren's Steven Thomson screwed his shot wide after he had collected the ball at the edge of the area and Paul McGowan's tame free-kick drifted wide of the Hamilton goal just before the break. Flavio Paixao was off-target again minutes into the second half, the forward heading wide after being picked out by Damian Casalinuovo. Marco Paixao's afternoon would also end in frustration as he headed over from Imrie's cross. Saints had the ball in the net on 71 minutes when Mensing stabbed a McGowan cross past Tomas Cerny but, with the flag raised against Wardlaw, the visitors' celebrations were cut short. There was another important call for the imported officials to make when Skelton went to ground in the box after being put under pressure by Sean Lynch but referee Levy was satisfied to allow play to continue. Samson was required to make an impressive save to deny Accies' Jim Goodwin, who was then penalised for a foul in the run up to McDonald putting the ball into the St Mirren net. And the deadlock would remain unbroken.
