Back in 1953, the highway began at the Texas state line, at today's southern terminus of OK 6. OK 34 was then duplexed with OK 6 and OK 44 to Eldorado at today's OK 6/OK 5 intersection, where OK 34 then went north on its own, and then the highway wound its way to Duke at U.S. 62. From there, the route was mostly the same as today to Woodward, then OK 34 was duplexed with U.S. 183 to the Kansas State Line, as today's OK 34 from Woodward to Kansas was not built at that time. Highway Review: OK 34 is one of Oklahoma's longest north-south highways. It spans 188.5 miles from OK 6 near the far southwest Oklahoma town of Eldorado to the Kansas State Line, where it turns into Kansas Highway 1.The first few miles of OK 34's life are relatively uneventful. It intersects U.S. 62 in Duke and then it joins U.S. 283 for 15 miles in Mangum. After OK 55 meets its western terminus at OK 34 in Carter and OK 34 intersects OK 152, the highway enters Elk City and heads east on Interstate 40 for nine miles. At Exit 41, OK 34 heads north once again through pretty desolate country as it heads toward Woodward. Southeast of Woodward, OK 34 joins U.S. 183, U.S. 270, and OK 3. OK 34 heads off on its own once again in Woodward and there is basically nothing for 30 miles until U.S. 64, where OK 34 heads east for four miles. After leaving U.S. 64, OK 34 has 11 more miles in Oklahoma before entering the Sunflower State. **Highway Information:**Distance: 188.5 milesCounties traveled through: Jackson, Greer, Beckham, Roger Mills, Custer, Dewey, Woodward, Harper, WoodsHighway Intersections: OK 6 (Mile 0.0), U.S. 62 (Mile 10.4), U.S. 283 (Mile 26.3), OK 9 (Mile 28.4), OK 9 (Mile 32.3), U.S. 283 (Mile 40.5), OK 55 (Mile 50.4), OK 152 (Mile 55.4), Interstate 40 (Mile 61.9), OK 6 (Mile 67.6), Interstate 40 (Mile 70.4), Bus.
