Most of the highway is located within Oklahoma's borders, starting in the eastern part of the panhandle and going all the way to southeast Oklahoma, where it then enters Arkansas just north of the Talimena Scenic Drive (OK 1). A lot of U.S. 270 is duplexed, especially in northwest Oklahoma. From its western beginning in Liberal to U.S. 281/OK 8 in Calumet, U.S. 270 is multiplexed with at least one other highway. It is not until its 205th mile in Oklahoma that it is on its own, and even that only lasts for 17 miles to Interstate 40. U.S. 270 then duplexes with the interstate from Exit 115 to Exit 181, which includes the entire Oklahoma City metropolitan area. U.S. 270 leaves Interstate 40 behind at Exit 181, but then merges onto U.S. 177 and OK 3W. In Tecumseh, the highway then leaves U.S. 177/OK 3W but duplexes with OK 9 for the next 13 miles. After a short duplex with OK 3E in southwest Seminole, U.S. 270 runs on its own for 27 miles before an 8.5-mile duplex with U.S. 75 and then a 45.5-mile duplex with OK 1. Near Hartshorne, U.S. 270 runs solo again, this time for 15 miles, before a short duplex with OK 2. There is then a short duplex with OK 82, then U.S. 270 runs solo for 14 miles before a 6-mile duplex with U.S. 271. After leaving U.S. 271 behind, the highway runs solo for 11 miles, then duplexes with U.S. 59 for its remaining 23 miles in Oklahoma. So if you skipped all of that (just duplex after duplex and so on) and are now reading here, I'll provide a quick summary of U.S. 270 in Oklahoma. It is 477 miles long, and only 97.8 miles of that are not multiplexed with another highway or highways. Its longest duplex is with OK 3, which is duplexed with U.S. 270 from the panhandle to Watonga, a distance of 141 miles!
