It begins its trek in Brownsville, Texas, just north of the U.S.-Mexico border. The first half of U.S. 77 runs mostly parallel to Interstate 35. The interstate first meets the U.S. highway in Waco, Texas and sticks relatively close to Interstate 35 until El Dorado, Kansas, about 30 miles northeast of Wichita. U.S. 77 begins its trek in Oklahoma joined with I-35 as they cross the Red River. U.S. 77 leaves I-35 at the first exit in Oklahoma. (Exit 1) It then runs parallel to I-35 and goes through Ardmore, Pauls Valley, Purcell, and Norman. U.S. 77 once again joins I-35 at Exit 113 in Norman. U.S. 77 exits off I-35 at Exit 126 (Interstates 40/235) and follows Interstate 235 North for all five miles of its length between Interstate 40 and Interstate 44. U.S. 77 continues north as the interstate designation ends and the Broadway Extension freeway begins. Construction wrapped up in late October 2002 on a widening project of the extension. Most of it has been widened to six lanes, with some parts being eight lanes. At the Memorial Rd. exit in far southern Edmond, the freeway ends and U.S. 77 becomes a 6-lane at-grade divided highway with intersections and stoplights at major streets. At 2nd St. in Edmond the highway heads due east to once again meet with Interstate 35. Guthrie is the location of the next and final split of Interstate 35 and U.S. 77 at Exit 153. U.S. 77 runs west of the freeway until west of Perry, where the highway heads east to cross I-35 and enter the town of Perry. After a short duplex with U.S. 64 in Perry, it continues heading north until just north of Tonkawa where it intersects U.S. 60 and 177. U.S. 177 takes over the main highway, and U.S. 77 heads east along U.S. 60. In Ponca City U.S. 77 heads north and is a 4-lane divided highway for about 10 miles from Ponca City.
