Comparing this with A. Hague's information we find that he has also included the Norwegian Atlantic in this convoy (station 64). He has also listed some other ships that are not named in the diary, namely: American Campfire (33), Panamanian Csikos (25), Panamanian Michigan (82), and the Swedish Pacific (35) all joining from St. John's. Also, the British Empire Porpoise (73) The ship in station 54 is given as Sulev in Ted's diary, but as Salen by A. Hague. Additionally, his information indicates that the convoy had 10 columns.* A. Hague has not listed Stal and Oregon I in this convoy - in fact, they show up again in SC 127, so may have been cancelled. West Nohno had 10 motor boats on her decks. She returned to port, as did Innerton, both later joining the next convoy, SC 127. |
Notes:
Commodore was in Clan Mciver (flying white flag with blue cross).
Several of the ships in this convoy (including the rescue vessel) returned to the U.S. in Convoy ONS 7 on May 7-1943.
Copeland (requisitioned Dec. 20-1940) was on her 22nd voyage as rescue vessel, having started this voyage at Clyde with the westbound Convoy ON 173 on March 13 (to Halifax March 28), returning with SC 126 on Apr. 8 to Clyde Apr. 23. ("Convoy Rescue Ships", Arnold Hague).
