Piła: a former regional seat, now in the Greatpolish region. Founded as a village of woodcutters (hence the name, ie. 'a saw'). Conquered by the Teutonic Knights and returned to Poland in 1466 (and again after WW1). ca. 75.000 inhabitants. German name: Schneidemuehl.
