A midfielder, he played his entire career in Italy, beginning with SPAL 1907 SpA, debuting in 1964 and remaining until 1967 (40 appearances, three goals). Joined AS Roma SpA from 1967 until 1969 (62 appearances, eleven goals), then Juventus FC SpA, in 1969 until 1976 (165 appearances, 27 goals). Joined AC Milan SpA, Italy in 1976 until 1979 (65 appearances, four goals). Coppa Italia winners 1968-69, 1976-77; Serie A champions 1971-72, 1972-73, 1974-75, 1978-79; Italy 1972-76 (32 appearances, eight goals) Management Career Club(s) Spent several seasons being a television pundit on Italian television before Capello entered into management. His first taste was with AC Milan SpA, at the end of the 1986-87 season, in a caretaker capacity. It was not until 1991 that he took over the Milan hotseat in a permanent capacity. Took over at Real Madrid CF, Spain in 1996 for a single season. He returned to AC Milan briefly, before taking over at AS Roma in 1999. Managed Juventus FC in 2004 until July 2006. Capello returned to Real Madrid CF on 4 July 2006 before being sacked on 28 June 2007, after winning the La Liga. Club honours Serie A Champions 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96, 2000-01, 2004-05, 2005-06 (later revoked); Supercoppa Italiana winners 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 2000-01; UEFA Champions League Champions 1993-94; European Super Cup Winners 1994; La Liga Champions 1996-97, 2006-07; Coppa Italia Winners 2000-01; Individual honours Serie A Coach of the Year 2004-05; Distinctions Capello is remembered for a goal with which Italy beat England at Wembley for the first time in its history on 14 November 1973. Capello had already scored against England in June 1973, when Italy beat England 2-0 in Turin. England Career England tenure Appointed national team coach 14 December 2007 on an initial four and a half year contract, worth £6 million a year. Took charge on 7 January 2008. Resigned 8 February 2012 following the Football Association's decision to strip John Terry of his captaincy, without consulting Capello himself. Other applicants Former Chelsea manager José Mourinho was the initial favourite to take over from McClaren, and was close to signing the contract before backing out. The FA quickly turned its attentions to Capello, although World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi was also thought to be in contention. Capello expressed his interest in the job just days after McClaren's departure, describing it as a "beautiful challenge". However, on 26 July 2012, Capello was appointed manager of the Russian national team, gui ding them to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil.
