Playing Career Club(s): A midfielder by trade, McClaren started with Hull City AFC after leaving school in 1979, he played 178 league matches, scoring sixteen times, until he left in 1985 to join Derby County FC 1985, a further 25 league appearances followed before joining Lincoln City FC on loan in 1987, making eight league appearances, left the Baseball Ground to join Bristol City FC in 1988, where he scored twice in 61 league outings. Left for Oxford United FC in 1989, after a final 33 league appearances, McClaren retired in 1992. He moved onto Derby County FC as Jim Smith's assistant manager in 1995, and Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United FC in 1999. It was not until he joined Middlesbrough FC in June 2001, did McClaren take on the managerial role. Beyond England Management Career Club(s) Returned to coaching with Darlington FC in May 2008, before being interested in the vacant Blackburn Rovers FC managers job a month later, regardless, he was employed in the Eredivisieas FC Twente's new manager on 20 June 2008. Despite his success, McClaren left the club to take up a similar role in the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg, but after a string of poor results, he was sacked on 7 February 2011. Returned to England on 13 June 2011 to become manager of Championship side Nottingham Forest FC, but resigned on 2 October 2011 after just 112 days in charge. He returned to FC Twente on 5 January 2012, but parted company on 25 February 2013. Became the manager at Derby County FC in September 2013, but was sacked on 25 May 2015 after failing to get them into the Premiership. Appointed manager at Newcastle United FC on 10 June 2015, until his sacking on 11 March 2016, having won just six games in 28 Premiership matches. On 18 May 2018, McClaren was appointed as Queen's Park Rangers FC manager. He was sacked on 1 April 2019. He returned to United in May 2022 as part of the backroom staff before taking the role of Head Coach at Jamaica on 31 July 2024.
