Da sempre l'oro ha affascinato l'essere umano, la sua brillantezza dura nel tempo. Gli scribi medievali lo usavano come simbolo della luce per miniare i codici manuscritti. La scoperta delle Americhe contribui ad aumentare la quantit� d'oro disponibile in Europe. Il Rinascimento fu, infatti, una autentica et� 'd'oro' della produzione dei manoscritti miniati e dorati. Purtroppo, con l'invenzione della stampa a caratteri mobili e la produzione dei libri a stampa, il codice manoscritto perde la sua importanza e diventa antiquariato.

Il corso di doratura e miniatura � stato organizzato collateralmente al convegno 'LA CITTA' E IL LIBRO: IL MANOSCRITTO, LA MINIATURA ' 4-6 settembre 2002, a conclusione del convegno. Durante i tre giorni, abbiamo ricatturato quell'et� d'oro rinascimentale, e, tramite dimostrazioni e pratica, imparato diversi metodi, antichi e moderni, per miniare lavori artistici e calligrafici. Sono state programmate visite a biblioteche e musei fiorentini che custodiscono codici miniati.
Il corso era aperto a tutti: calligrafi, artisti e persone che desideravano accrescere il proprio bagaglio culturale. E' stato organizzato dall'Associazione Cultural INCIPIT Circolo Calligrafia Italiana. Il docente, AUGUSTO FIORANI , ha pi� di trent'anni di esperienze artistiche, calligrafiche e pittoriche.
Le lezioni si sono svolte a Calenzano, provincia di Firenze, presso la Villa San Donato della Fondazione Adolfo Carmine e dell'Accademia di Belle Arti. Chi arrivava in macchina si � servirto della cartina allegata all'elenco dei materiali per l'iscrizione al corso. Chi invece arrivava in treno ha potuto raggiungere la Villa San Donato in autobus, linea 2, dalla Stazione di Santa Maria Novella (da capolinea a capolinea). Un taxi costava all'incirca 30, 40 euro.
La quota del corso era di 135 euro (145 euro per chi non era socio dell'INCIPIT ), comprendeva tre giorni di lezioni (24 ore) e parte dei materiali. L'elenco completo dei materiali � stato inviato a ciascun partecipante dopo il versamento dell'acconto di 35 euro sul C/C n� 12201497 intestato a INCIPIT entro il 20 agosto 2002. Le spese di trasporto, alloggio, pasti, ingressi ai musei, ed acquisti erano a carico dei partecipanti.
Per soggiornare alla Villa San Donato si � prenotato tramite l'INCIPIT , entro il 20 agosto 2002. Il costo era di 25 euro per notte a persona. Le camere erano doppie o triple con bagni al piano, e uso di cucina.

AUGUSTO FIORANI: WORKSHOP IN THE PRAXIS AND THEORY OF ILLUMINATION AND MINIATURE PAINTING AND GILDING IN MANUSCRIPTS

People have always been fascinated by gold. Its brilliance lasts untarnished through the ages. Medieval scribes used it as a symbol of the theology of light to illuminate their manuscripts. After the discovery of the Americas, the quantity of gold increased in Europe. Indeed, one may call the Renaissance a 'Golden Age' in the production of illuminated and gold-leafed manuscripts, until the book in black and white printed with moveable type antiquated the hand-written, illuminated, gilded codex.
This course was organized to follow the international congress, ' THE CITY AND THE BOOK II: THE MANUSCRIPT, THE MINIATURE' 4-6 September 2002. Lasting three days, it sought to recapture that Golden Age and, through demonstrations and praxis, each participant learned different ancient and modern methods for 'illuminating' artwork and calligraphy. Visits were planned toFlorentine libraries and museums with illuminated manuscripts, 6 September, Friday morning.
The course was open to all: calligraphers, artists and persons desiring to know the praxis of medieval book production. It was organized by INCIPIT. The docent was AUGUSTO FIORANI who has had more than thirty years of artistic, calligraphic and illuminating praxis.
The lessons took place in Calenzano, near Florence, in the Villa San Donato of the Adolfo Carmine Foundation and the Accademia di Belle Arti. Transportation was by car (a map was sent with the registration materials) or from Florence's Santa Maria Novella Station, bus number 2 from the first to the last stop. A taxi cost from 30 to 40 euro.
The cost of 135 euro (145 euro for non-members of INCIPIT ) covered lessons for three days (24 hours) and some materials. The complete materials list was sent when the registration fee of 35 euro was received by INCIPITby the 20 August deadline (Conto Corrente Postale 12201497. If one used the Italian post, a photocopy of this payment was included with the registration to INCIPIT. )
Expenses for transportation, lodging, meals, museums and purchases were paid by the participants. Those staying at the Villa San Donato had to reserve a bed or beds before 20 August 2002 through INCIPIT. Each room had two or three beds and the cost per night was 25 euro per person. Meals were prepared communally in the Villa's Renaissance kitchen.
