About FrieseiteHide

Crystallographically similar to sternbergite with a a:b:c = 0.5969:1:0.7352 and the forms c{101}, b{010}, w{301}, r{102}, {101}, {043}, {131}. Twinned like sternbergite; however, thick tabular habit and differing composition.

Dana considered frieseite to be identical to sternbergite.
Peacock (1942) states that the X-ray powder diffraction photographs of frieseite show only the pattern of pyrite with weak extra lines corresponding to the strongest lines of sternbergite. He assumes that frieseite alters to oriented sternbergite and pyrite.
Peacock (1969) mentions that a specimen of frieseite from the US NMNH gave a pattern for argentopyrite.
Quellmalz (1970) found that frieseite is a partial pseudomorph of pyrite after sternbergite (or argentopyrite).
Ondruš et al. (2003) determined that frieseite from Jáchmymov is a mixture of sternbergite, pyrite and marcasite.
