Over the past few weeks, the international broadcasting giant has seen its reputation reach its lowest ebb as a result of:Allowing an openly anti-Semitic posting to remain on a messageboard, which falsely claimed that Jewish Talmudic law allows Jews to lie to non-Jews and that Zionism is a racist ideology. Only after pressure from UK Jewish organizations did the BBC eventually remove the offensive posting. Faking phone-in competition winners on a popular children's TV show and a major charity fundraising event (more examples of faked phone-ins are also coming to light). Editing a documentary trailer that falsely made the Queen look like she had stormed out of a photo shoot.No other international media outlet elicits as many complaints of bias from our readers as the BBC. If the organization is capable of showing such little respect for the British monarch and the British public (which pays a compulsory license fee for the privilege of funding the BBC), is it any surprise that it consistently treats Israel with utter disdain?HonestReporting took a snapshot of BBC reporting of the Arab-Israeli conflict over the first six months of 2007.( Read more...Collapse ) Tags: bbc bias, media bias

	all4israelmick_hale		A mirror thread: The BBC crunches the numbers In my occasional visits to free_palestine to try and figure out how these people think (or for a good laugh, since apparently you can claim Israel is not a legal state as recognized by international law without backing it up by any sources, but please don't start any flamewars), I saw a thread with this link. Now, I'm fairly sure you're all aware of the BBC's bias against Israel, so I'll take the time to nitpick at two things, just for the fun of it._*There are no figures to show the proportion of Palestinians who were combatants and those who were civilians._According to The Institute for Counter-Terrorism, as of September 2002, Palestinian combatant (feel free to substitute your choice of word) casualties was around 54%. Compare to Israeli combatant casualties. I'm sure you can find many different sources talking about discrepancies within the numbers, and I'm sure it depends on whether you check ElectronicIntifada or Israel's Ministry of International Affairs.In their section of economic costs, the BBC was quick to talk about Palestinian economic costs, but didn't mention anything about Israeli economic costs - massive drops in tourism, the poverty line in Israel rising, the massive unemployment rates, medical and security costs, et cetera ad nauseum.Tags: bbc bias, free_palestine, statistics on combatant casualties
