Sufism, as a religious practice and a way of life, has immense importance because it forges a path leading towards truth and peace. With the recognition of such truth women found encouragement that led them to a spiritual maturation that has not always been possible in the ways of the West. From the earliest days, women have played an important role in the development of Sufism. Without the role of women Sufism is incomplete. To say that, there was no prejudice against women within Sufism would not be true, but despite that woman were deeply committed to Sufism and life of asceticism even in the absence of encouragement and assistance from their male counterparts. We show that prior to March 2013, the policy target of the exchange management was stability of the real effective exchange rate. However, during the tenure of the current government, the policy target for exchange rate management seems to have been stability of the nominal exchange rate against the US dollar. As the currencies of Pakistan’s major trading partners (UK, Europe and China) have depreciated against the dollar during this period, the real effective exchange rate has appreciated by over 20 percent since the time that the current policy makers took office. The physical beauty in Kashmir is consciously maintained and highly amplified by some of their commendable qualities. Many scholars have mentioned that the Sufism in Kashmir called attention to the peaceful co-existence of all faiths apart from its emphasis upon the increasing of virtues, soul purification and divine love. Their philosophy has strengthened the Kashmiri social setup by adding details to their hospitality, warmth, tolerance, equality and generosity.
In this regard, the paper is an attempt to understand the role that the philosophy of these Sufi saints has played in the history of Kashmir. Employing secondary sources and the relevant literature, the paper highlights the fact that Sufism has been instrumental in establishing and maintaining the legacy of peaceful co-existence and infusing the qualities the land has been known for like hospitality, equality, brotherhood and more importantly the hospitality. However, assessing the present situation in the valley, it is food for thought for the people and scholars as well to see how far this philosophy needs revival to pull together the scattered threads of the longed-for Kashmir ethos.
