Evliya Çelebi's Seyahatnâme is not just a traveler's notes. Since he had the opportunity to meet with the sultans of the period as well as numerous issues ranging from folk culture to music, from architecture to medicine, from food to geographic narratives, he also included their descriptions in his works. We can find information about topics which we are still curious about today, such as the physical appearance of the Ottoman sultans, the literary depictions such as kaside and sehnâme, the visual depictions of the period miniatures and portraits. The portraits performed by the palace artists in the miniature tradition by working at the nakkashane of the Ehl-i Hiref organization reflected the physical characteristics of the sultans in a very realistic way. Evliya Çelebi's Seyahatnâme, which is the basis of our research subject, gave a place to the biographies of nineteen sultans and their princes starting with Osman Gazi and ending with Mehmed IV. Although there are literary works, images such as miniatures and portraits to describe the sultans, the depictions of Evliya Çelebi in Seyahatnâme are different from other sources.
