The attempt to detect Theology in the linguistic deviations and divergencies of the Septuagint (... more The attempt to detect Theology in the linguistic deviations and divergencies of the Septuagint (LXX) with the Massoretic Text (MT), presupposes the use of certain exegetical methods. Of course, this implies methods to be used by the modern Septuagint scholar and not the hypothetical translation technique(s) used by the LXX-translators. Therefore, I suggest the scholar should integrate the historical critical method in a balanced manner, without the incriminating questioning of long outdated historicism - into the modern LXX-exegesis. In this way, I think, we have the opportunity to verify or falsify hypothetical exegetical practices probably used by the LXX-translators and to discover where we are really able to talk about genuine Theology in the LXX in contrast to the MT. The LXX-Psalm 150, in comparison to other related Old Testament texts, was chosen to exemplify this suggestion.

He is vulnerable but wants to reach perfection, is mortal and longs for immortality.
This equivalent enables us to decode translation processes in the LXX-Job and to uncover hermeneutical principles and characteristics of its theological and anthropological language and thought.
Justin’s dialogue with Trypho assembles theoretical reflections on Christian-Jewish disputations ... more Justin’s dialogue with Trypho assembles theoretical reflections on Christian-Jewish disputations based on certain fixed process-rules and traditional written sources such as the Septuagint and Plato. It directs attention to certain philosophical and theological issues and provides exclusive statements about the meeting and Christian reworking of Greek and Hebrew ways of thinking in the Graeco-Roman world. The present article deals with the relationship between philosophy and theology as well as Justin’s understanding of scripture as significant conceptual keys to the decipherment of the Septuagintand Platoreception in the ongoing 2nd century AD. 1.1 Justins Dialog mit Tryphon stellt die spatere schriftliche Fixierung eines christlich-judischen Gesprachs dar. Jh. n. Chr. Sie bietet exklusive Aussagen, deren besondere...

This article deals with Malachi 3:5 from the perspective of language theology. An attempt is made to answer the questions of how the LXX translator of the Malachi book came up with the reading ‘bend the right of the proselyte’, how this reading can be correctly interpreted and in which way it relates to the question of proselyte law and theology, the language of the Septuagint.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: The focus falls in the contextual-hermeneutical study in the translation in the Septuagint of Malachi 3:5 in the Old Testament, posing the question on how the translator conceived of the right of the proselyte and how it can best be understood. The interdisciplinarity of the article touches on both the Hebrew Bible and the Septuagint (LXX) texts.

Gutians have been linked to the collapse of the Akkadian Empire after which, in 22 nd century BC, they ruled in Mesopotamia; the exact length of their rule is unknown. The recently discovered text of the Codex Ur-Namma has a unique reference to bala gu-du-ma-ka (the Gutian period) comparing it to the bala ur-d namma (the period of Ur-Namma) in matters related to a particular legal problem involving the law of sale and evidentiary procedure. The present essay will critically evaluate the current understanding of the law and offers a new interpretation. As a necessary introduction to the interpretation of cuneiform law collections the nature of the texts known as law collection and their casuistic method will be discussed.
