Hence the objective of the study is to understand the adoption of Good Agricultural and Good Management Practices in coconut cultivation and the reasons for not adopting the practices. The details about Good Agricultural and Good Management Practices in coconut cultivation was collected from Central Plantation Crops Research Institute and FAO. Most of the farmers have adopted IPM and IDM to control the pest and disease. With respect to GMP, most of the farmers have adopted the harvest of matured nuts. The major reason for non-adoption of GAP and GMP was due to lack of technical knowledge.

More than 70 types of vegetables are grown in our country , higher emphasis for marketing and processing of vegetables. There is a gargantuan waste during post-harvest storage and handling due to improper bagging without crating, lack of temperature controlled vehicles, no cold chain facilities for preserving the produce, coupled with significant processing of the agricultural produce resulting in enormous losses to the nation. Hence a proper supply chain management in vegetables has to be improved in all the stages of the supply by adopting global best practices in storage, packaging, handling, transportation, value added service etc.

Totally 162.89 million MT of vegetable cultivated is around 9.39 million hectares which is about 3 per cent areas in the country (Neeraj et al., 2017). It is estimated that between 30 and 35 per cent of India's total vegetable production is lost owing to poor postharvest practices (Singh et al., 2014). Only less than 2 per cent of total vegetables are processed when compared to 70 per cent in Brazil and 65 per cent in the USA. Approximately 1.5 lakh MT of vegetables is sold in the processed form (Dutta et al., 2015). India's vast geographical area coupled with varied suitable climate conditions facilitates to grow a variety of vegetables. More than 70 types of vegetables are grown in the country, like tomato, brinjal, chilly, cauliflower, cabbage, peas, potatoes, onions and few common cucurbits and leafy vegetables (Khadatkar et al., 2018). These generate high income and employment, particularly for small farmers. Among the vegetables tomatoes, onion, HIND AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING INSTITUTE

A substantial quantity of production is subjected to post-harvest losses at various stages of its marketing. The quantum of loss is governed by factors like perishable nature, method of harvesting and packaging, transportation, etc. Tomato being a third most cultivated crop, the post-harvest losses is significant in terms of quantity and economic value. This study undertaken in Coimbatore on tomato has suggested marketing loss in the estimation of marketing margins, price spread and efficiency and has used a modified formula for it. It has been observed that a majority of tomato producers sell their produce to the wholesalers facilitated by commission agents at different stages. The aggregate post-harvest losses from farm gate to consumers in tomato ranges from 13 to 26%. It has indicated the necessity of reducing the market intermediaries, for minimizing post-harvest losses and providing remunerative price to the producers. The results have emphasized that efforts should be made to adopt improved packaging techniques, cushioning material at the farm level. The producer's share in consumer's price as estimated by old method has been found higher and the inclusion of marketing loss in the estimation of marketing margins, price spread and efficiency has indicated that the old estimation method unduly overstates the farmers' net price and profit margins to the market middlemen. It is appropriate to use modified method for the estimation of marketing margins and price spread.
