[**Tags**|opinion, rant]It's going to be very interesting to see what it will be like in San Francisco and on campus at USF this upcoming school year, what with all the stuff going on in the Middle East right now. I expect much anti-Israel sentiments along with anti-Semitism (however unintentional, since technically they're not supposed to go together...but they always do) since it's the popular thing to do in the Bay Area. To the point where I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this. *Note to self: avoid Arab Student Union.* I find it ironic how the terrorist group, Hezbollah, is getting all the sympathy when their military symbol is a MACHINE GUN and Israel's symbol is a Peace Dove with an olive branch. I also find it interesting how Hezbollah has deliberately planted all the centers that Israel is bombing right in the center of civilian areas in order to get world sympathy and make Israel appear as if they are the evil ones. I find it even more interesting how it's actually working. Are people that stupid? Fuck Hezbollah. Free Israel.

Israel [Jul. 16th, 2006|02:21 pm]beckalex
[**Tags**|family, opinion, rant]I am so sick of the pro-Palistinean sentiment. When I was in Europe, it was all over the BBC World News about how one Israeli solider was kidnapped, thus sparking them to shoot missles into Lebanon, Gaza, etc. They constantly reported how this was done all for the sake of the release of one soldier. After I finished watching the BBC, I kept thinking, Gee, Israel, I love you and all, but you are just being silly! Then there was the peace offer by the other side saying that if Israel offered a cease-fire, they would release the soldier...which Israel rejected. Once again I think to myself, Gee Israel, you're being even sillier! Then I thought about it - if Israel accepted the cease-fire, that would allow countries like Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Gaza, etc. to fire-at-will at Israel. Then I come home and find out from CNN.com and my mom (who spoke to my grandmother who spoke to our cousins who LIVE in ISRAEL) told me that it turns out that FOUR Israeli soldiers were KILLED and that TWO were captured without provocation. This is what started the impending war in Lebanon. The BBC failed to mention that...makes sense, since they are militantly anti-Israel. My aunt Nardit was visiting her sister in Haifa and now the two of them had to flee south into the desert to escape the bombing of Haifa. Luckily my family in Tel Aviv is still safe for now.I don't understand this. I don't understand all of that liberal propaganda of how the Palestineans are the victims and Israel is the enemy. The Palestineans kidnapped and killed the Israeli atheletes from the Olympics back in the 70's. The Palestineans would sneak up on the beaches of Israel at night and go into homes and slit the throats of the sleeping people. The Palestineans blew up day-care centers, buses, schools, hospitals, etc. in suicide missions. The Palestineans would strap bombs around their children and have them go into the streets of Israel to blow up.As a result? Israel needed to retaliate and contain the Palestineans in order to protect their country. Yet people are ignoring those facts and are jumping around to say that the Israelis are the brutes and the murderers. That's a lie.Israel is a country that wants to survive in peace with its neighbors. But alas, their wish for peace is constantly being denied, so as a result, retaliation is needed. Retaliation for protection. Peace in the Middle East CANNOT happen without violence. Look back at history and you'll see that there hasn't been a single peace result that did not come out of violence. In the real world, peace doesn't come through peace and peace won't come through peace. It's a sad fact but it must be faced by all.I am sick of the trendy liberal propaganda skewing the news so it can fit their beliefs. It's all a bunch of trendy lies to fit in with bashing the president since the US is Israel's biggest ally. I've been to the websites and I've read the papers and I've come to notice that the majority of their "facts" seem to come from unnamed sources or they just don't look at the big picture. The liberalist ideas are supposed to be open-minded and view all sides. But I've come to realized that it's the most close-minded of all. "Your opinion matters!!!! As long as it fits in with our ideals." No thanks. These wars and opposing sides need to stop. But they can't stop without violence. That's the brutal reality. People need to start realizing that.

The beginning of the end.... [May. 22nd, 2006|03:42 pm]beckalex
[**Tags**|opinion]I have decided that I am sick of Live Journal so henceforth, I will not be updating any longer unless I have something truly awesome to report that may interest people...or that may not. I shall still read other people's LJ's and comment and such, but mine is going on a semi-permanent hiatus. If my LJ pops up on your friends list (provided I don't get taken off) then surely that will only mean something awesome (good or bad) has happened. If you are still interested in my personal news and updates, I'm sure you know how to contact me. It had been fun. Toodles!

[**Tags**|movies, opinion, rant, school]All major papers officially turned in. What's left: a write-up, one more math assignment, and a bullshitted debate. And then finals. But let's not think about that yet.I got bored around 4:30 so I left and saw United 93. Very very good movie. Highly intense. Throughout the whole thing I was secretly hoping that they would be okay, but I knew at the same time that it was completely obvious that they wouldn't be. In the credits I noticed that most of the people in the scenes involving air traffic control towers and military alert centers were actually playing themselves. Quite neat. It mostly just showed what happened versus spewing out a political agenda, which was really nice. I was half-afraid I was gonna get a whole bunch of biased political views shoved down my throat (which happens way too often) but nope. They just showed it as it was...or at least a dramatization of what it was, since no one was actually ON the plane. They could have way too easily taken a biased stance, but they didn't. Kudos to the director, Paul Greengrass. Or whatever his name is.I have ever mentioned how much I absolutely hate crowded buses? I feel so digusting. I feel like I have everyone's sweat, breath, and grime coated all over me. Siiiiiick. I feel all....licey or something now.I think the hunger strike ended today. I thought the idea of the hunger strike was good - all the power to them...but...was it really going to accomplish anything? I don't know if I've gotten cynical or what lately, but I seriously am starting to think that political marches and demonstrations are pretty silly. What do they do in the long run? Sure, a message gets out, but does it change anything? Does it sway those in power who actually make the decisions? Not really. I could probably count the number of times my US history textbook mentions bills being passed soley due to public pressure on my fingers. Besides, what do protestors really know? The only people with the real information are the ones in power who keep it from the public. As a result, rumors get out in various ways of media frenzy and become totally misconstrued and manipulated in ways to fit in with certain public agendas. I don't think things are as black and white as everyone makes it out to be...I'm sure things go into lots more detail that people either just don't know or simply decide not to acknowledge. I'm not AGAINST marches or anything like that - I've been to my share, I know what they're like and all the power to those people. I just don't think they accomplish anything in the long run. I think people need to cool their jets, take a step back, and try to think deeper into matters instead of just swallowing media garbage assumed as facts. And that's the end of my shpeil. Taking an apathetic stance on some stuff is the way to go. It makes you happier in the long run.
