Research paper thumbnail of Dragonfly addressing model for software defined networks based on datacenters

International Journal of Engineering & Technology, Apr 30, 2018

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) means to address issues resulting from complex hardware-based appliances by developing standard IT virtualization technologies. Software Defined Networking (SDN) solidifies the advantages of datacenter virtualization, increases resource flexibility and utilization, and reduces infrastructure costs and overhead. Datacenter networks should have the ability to guarantee high throughput and resiliency. For such reasons, typical datacenter networks (e.g. Fat Tree) have been evolved to high-radix networks (e.g. Dragonfly). This work aims to investigate how SDN and NFV can improve the advantages of datacenter virtualization by utilizing datacenter topologies such as Dragonfly (DF) topology and Fat Tree (FT) topology in SDN, thus expanding resource flexibility and utilization and diminishing infrastructure costs and overhead. By using Dragonfly topology, the cost is reduced and better scalability is introduced compared to the folded clos networks such as Fat Tree. Here in, a novel addressing scheme is proposed for Dragonfly topology with simulation results included utilizing Mininet, which incorporates MiniEdit that is used to create and run network simulations.

Sensor networks are formed from a collection of sensing nodes which communicate with one another,... more Sensor networks are formed from a collection of sensing nodes which communicate with one another, typically through wireless channels, in order to collect spatially distributed data about their environment. Sensor nodes are operating on battery power with a limited energy resources. The energy consumption is one of the most important issues and the designing of the energy consumption protocol is very critical for prolonging the lifetime. This paper introduces the LEACH routing protocol in Homogenous & Heterogeneous system supported by simulation and analysis of the results. From the brief analysis of the simulation we have come to the conclusion that LEACH Heterogeneous System provides a good performance in energy consumption and increasing the level in lifetime of the wireless sensor networks than LEACH Homogeneous System.

Thus energy efficiency is one of the most important issues and designing energy efficient protocols is critical for prolonging the lifetime. This paper introduces a two routing protocols namely, LEACH and EAMMH in Homogenous & Heterogeneous system supported by simulation scripts, and analysis of the results against known metrics with energy and network lifetime being major among them. Simulation results using MATLAB shows that the proposed EAMMH in Homogenous & Heterogeneous system significantly reduces energy consumption and increases the total lifetime of the wireless sensor network.
