There's a storm moving in He's headin' back from somewhere That he never should have been And the thunder rolls And the thunder rolls

Saturday, May 19 ~ Afternoon

Lucius materialized in the library, very glad to be back at the manor. The business he'd conducted had went very well, putting a spark back into him that had been missing for far too long. Being crafty and a bit devious in the business arena was as satisfying, if not more so, than terrorizing the help.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver. ~ Jack Handy Friday, March 30 ~ Evening

Once Draco had reached a certain age, Malfoy family dinners had certainly become more interesting.

First there were before dinner drinks.

Then wine with dinner.

Then after dinner drinks.

Family was decidedly easier to handle with a buzz. "...and he didn't even get a pre-nup! The fucking Idiot - is that legal?"

Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then. ~ Katharine Hepburn Saturday, February 3rd ~ Evening

The elves had been entirely unable to do anything to please the mistress of the house since she had returned from the outing with the master of the manor the day before. There had been much ear ironing and smashing of heads with oven doors occurring as well as a few elves who were forced to resort to throwing themselves off the roof when all the traditional ways of punishing themselves were taken. The only saving grace for the poor creatures was that the regular Friday evening meal with the son of the manor attending was postponed until the next evening after a flurry of owls had been sent. The tray brought to the mistress' room later was thrown out into the hall with a resounding crash of china and crystal.

I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. ~ William Butler Yeats Saturday, January 27th ~ Morning

As Lucius moved away from the back of her chair and proceeded to seat Bella, Narcissa swallowed while delicately wrinkling her nose at the odor assaulting her nostrils. It had to be coming from one of the covered dishes on the breakfast table.

"What is that atrocious aroma? Lucius, Bella? Did one of you request something odious this morning?"

Covering her nose with the hankie she kept in a pocket, she started to lift the various coverings.

"I didn't say anything last night, but the broccoli must not have been entirely fresh. The odor from it was almost enough to make me ill. Whatever this is - is succeeding where that failed."

WWN News Update Saturday, January 6 ~ Evening

"... And as parents across the commonwealth well know, this weekend the Hogwarts Express will speed across the land to bring the students back to their books.

"Tonight, though, the members of the Board of Governors and select members of the Hogsmeade community were welcomed to the castle ahead of the start of second term by the staff.

"Percy Weasley, the director of the Hogsmeade Ministry office, spoke at length and quite knowlegeably about traditional and non-traditional spellcasting methods.

"So, students, take comfort in this as you head back to class: even over the holidays, your teachers went in for a little learning themselves."

"Never too old, eh?"

The sound of a door creaking open floated over the airwaves, and if one listened closely, a fiercely whispered exchange could be heard:

"Tell them about the after-party! The drunken debauchery! Tell them what really happened!"

"Rita, get the hell out of here! You don't have any sources, we'll get sued ..."

"Some greedy witch got engaged before I could have a fair crack at the groom-to-be! That's injustice! I should write an editorial ..."

A fierce rustling was heard, and the original voice returned.

"This has been Ezekiel Brunderbluss with your evening news and as always ladies and gentlemen WWN is interested in the comments and concerns of our listeners. If you have one, please contact us by owl or floo. We appreciate the interest shown and will respond as soon as possible. The Wizarding Wireless Network now returns you to our regularly scheduled programing."

Christmas Day broadcast

The quick fanfare announcing a feature piece lilted over the WWN airwaves, followed by the familiar voice of Horace Knickerbocker.

"Ciaran McIrney remembers his first Cribbage's Wizarding Cracker well."

A high-pitched male voice came over the network.

"I was two years old, and my older sisters were squabbling over the last cracker. I somehow got hold of one end when Marcia let go and sort of fell on it as it opened — my face was blue from the smoke for a month after. Mum was angry at the time, but brings the piccies out now whenever I have a bird over. Still have the Screaming Yo-yo I got from it, though."

The smooth voice of the narrator ( took up the thread.Collapse )

"A married man should forget his mistakes; no use two people remembering the same thing." - Duane Dewel Saturday, December 9th ~ Early Morning

The morning sun made criss-cross patterns across the rich duvet, casting shades of brilliant copper and fire in the silver blonde hair of his sleeping wife. Lucius lay on his side watching her, the lazy morning comfortableness seeping into him. He was more relaxed at this minute of the day than any other and he savored it with a keen awareness he'd been denied it for too many years.

Carefully he lifted a lock of hair, letting it slide through his fingers.Watching the light play on the golden threads, Lucius decided it was time to ask her what he'd been considering for the pass weeks. He was confident that he could persuade her to agree, after all, it was for her benefit also. He released her hair and snaked his hand under the covers, finding her warm body and sliding his hand over her arm to find and cup a full breast. "Good morning, darling," he murmured against her ear as he pressed his body close to her warm one.

Arrival in Hogsmeade. Thursday, December 7th ~ Late morning.

Kevin had found, to his slight surprise, that in the various piles of books in his apartment there were also a large range of exploding and singing items that he honestly didn't remember ever getting. He had very deliberately not packed them, and with a a bag, mostly containing heavy books, slung over his shoulder, had apparated to the outskirts of Hogsmeade, near where his new apartment was.

Peering around the street and checking the map for where the apartment was, he quickly turned and headed towards his destination.

Dreams have only one owner at a time. That's why dreamers are lonely. ~ Erma Bombeck Tuesday, November 28th ~ Evening

The evening had been quite satisfactory so far. The new set of china was exactly what Narcissa had wanted to offset the darkness of the new drapes in the main dining room. She had eaten her dinner even slower than usual in order to study how each piece looked in relation to the other dishes on the table.

I think... new crystal. With the edges trimmed to match the light green on the china.

Her eyes were more concerned with the gleam of the lights on the dessert dishes than she was with what was contained in them and found herself with a larger serving of the confection than she normally allowed herself.

No dessert tomorrow, she decided as her fork split it open and the aroma of melted chocolate reached her nose.

Two Sides of the Coin Birthday Wishes Narcissa and Molly Monday, October 20

The elegant restaurant was strangely empty save for two occupants seated at the best table in the house. Lucius had arranged it that way, having no wish to dine with any undesirables. The owner was very compliant to closing the place to the public for the night, paid handsomely for the favor.

A waiter refilled their champagne glasses, melting away as quickly as he came once the service was finished. The table was laden with choice plates, the skill of the chef shining through for the well-paying, intimidating guests of the evening.

I've always loved a challenge. Monday, October 30th ~ Afternoon

Dearest Lucius,

You can't imagine my surprise when I received your owl the other day. I would have responded sooner but I simply had to see for myself.

( I attended a small, informal gathering over the weekend and saw your dear son.Collapse )

If Mohammed will not go to the mountain, then put him in a full Body Bind and take him. October 20th, Early Morning

The elf freshened the cup at his master's elbow, stepping back quickly, his ears drooping with relief. Master was too absorbed in the parchment he was working on to notice that a drop of coffee had fallen onto the saucer beneath the cup.

Lucius laid down the quill, skimming over the letter he'd finished, a very self satisfied smirk gracing his features. After the disappointing report from Greg, he knew that Draco wasn't going to acquiesce to Lucius demands any time soon if ever. That was not acceptable.

However, it was getting him no where trying to make his son obey him, apparently he'd been away too long, and Draco, as Narcissa had said, was too much a Malfoy to bend. There were other methods to accomplish the desired results.

Sealing the envelope with the Malfoy crest, Lucius sent it on its way with a handsome eagle owl. His grey eyes glittered with a hint dark anticipation. If his plan came to fruition, Draco would soon see the error of his thinking.

Reality is a nice place, but I wouldn't want to live there. Monday, October 16th ~ Evening

Narcissa had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to speak with her husband about Draco. It was painfully apparent that was never going to happen, so she decided to bring the subject up after dinner. When he was hopefully at least slightly mellowed with food and drink.

"Lucius? Could I speak with you?"

Monday, October 9, 2006 - Afternoon

Going to the very seat of the Malfoy power always made Goyle feel both jealousy and pity for Draco. The surroundings were opulent and the epitome of taste. It displayed just how wealthy his old school friend was. Now, the Goyle family was not shabbily off. They had enough to make certain that they and their heirs never had to work again as long as they invested well and lived inside a budget. However, the Malfoys came from a completely different world.

It was that sense of disconnection from the simpler things in life and how the world on the outside must seem to someone who grew up with this that made Goyle feel a bit sorry for Draco. To grow up isolated amongst such richness and beauty and then be thrust into the real world, must make the rest of the world seem like a very harsh and ugly place.

Goyle waited patiently in his seat for Lucius Malfoy to see him. When he arrived, he had made certain to ask the house elf if Draco was at home first. After being told that he wasn’t, he then asked for the master of the house.

Someone's Been Sneaking Into the Cookie Jar Sunday, September 24, Afternoon

It was quiet, almost too quiet, and Lucius found himself starting at shadows as he walked through the long hall toward his office. Sneering at his reaction, he shook off the lingering memories; hours, nights, of silence, the sound of his own breathing the only noise in that dismal dark cell the first years in Azkaban.

( The sky outside was gray, threatening rain, and the lamps flared as he entered the large chamber.Collapse )

Friends are defined on how far they are willing to carry your lifeless body through the desert. Thursday, September 7th~Afternoon

Things were not going well within the walls of the manor. Draco's departure had left behind a underlying tension, tension that made him edgy. Strategy was needed, the kid gloves pulled on, to deal with his son's defiance so not to alienate him completely. It was time to call on the Slytherin instinct.

One of These Days I Need to Have a Loooong Talk With That Boy.... Wednesday, September 6th ~ Late Afternoon

The sun played over the sweeping lawns casting shadows from the statues and trees that graced the greenness. Lucius stood at edge of the marbled patio stairs that led down into the gardens, waiting. He'd sent one of the elves to tell Draco to join him for afternoon tea. Now that Draco was safely back in the house and seemed to be recovering from his stint into the Fae world, it was time to have a talk.

The Thief Does Not Come in the Front Door Tuesday, September 5th ~ Late Afternoon

Sitting behind the large desk, Lucius sipped the brandy, reflecting over his accomplishments of the day. Some would say lack of accomplishment since his attempt to garner the Minister's favor was unsuccessful, but he'd learn much about Scrimgeour today. That was a first step.

Unlike his predecessor, Scrimgeour was not impressed with a hefty donation to the Ministry. In fact, he'd turned it down suggesting that Lucius donated to a worthy charity instead. Scrimgeour may have been dismissive toward him but the Undersecretary was not. There were many ways to an end.

Experience is a dear teacher, but fools will learn at no other. ~ Benjamin Franklin Tuesday, August 29th ~ Evening

The Great Hall has once again been temporarily revamped. The long student tables have been removed and round ones accompanied by comfortable dining chairs have taken their place. They dot the floor under the enchanted ceiling, the soft ivory tone of the linen covering the table tops invite you to sit and enjoy yourself.

It's been a year since the re-dedication ceremony and six years since the Dark Lord was finally defeated. This is an evening for reflection, celebration and if Minerva will allow it, more than a few glasses of good wine with friends, both old and new.

The Prodigal Son Returns

They say that blood is thicker than water. Maybe that's why we battle our own with more energy and gusto than we would ever expend on strangers. David Assael August 20, Evening

Aches and pains began to feel his body. The were welcoming pains, the pain of battle, of victory; the lord and the prince had returned. The lights of the manor beckoned them as they approached the door.

Lucius placed his hand on Draco's shoulder as they entered the manor, a barrage of house elves appearing, inquiring to take cloaks, offer refreshements. "Tell Mrs. Malfoy that we have returned," he commanded. "And bring the best wine from the cellar. Tonight, we celebrate."

Men are more moral than they think and far more immoral than they can imagine. ~ Sigmund Freud Sunday, August 20th ~ Evening

Izabel was thankful everyone had returned in one piece - more or less. The frostbite, cuts and scrapes from ice and nasty bite marks could be easily dealt with. The first thing she did was to move toward the kitchen. Harry had asked Dobby to forgo his normal day off and she wanted to see if he would get some hot soup ready for them if nothing else was wanted. She heard the pop of Apparantion and glanced over her shoulder at the motley crew that was appearing.

I am surprised Harry would allow Malfoy senior to come here, but he did his part and Draco is still unconscious.

Minerva hadn't wanted to accompany them, but had headed back toward the school saying now that all the professors were accounted for, she needed to get other things lined up for the new term. Izabel hadn't missed the hugs she'd given Vera and Adrian upon their return nor the slight chuckle that escaped her lips when she'd inquired if Draco was badly injured and found out the reason he was - silent.

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future Sunday afternoon

The newscaster wrapped up the report on a minor river troll rampage and moved to a tiny bit of business news before the segue back into music:

"Enterprising mums are getting the hop on the back-to-school season by doing their shopping a bit ahead of the crowds soon to be swamping Diagon Alley. Shopkeepers report their early August sales receipts are up 5 percentile points from last year."

"Meanwhile, all the young folk, soon to be bright scholars once more, are eager to capture all the idyllic moments remaining before the carefree days of this summer are gone forever."

"And the perfect soundtrack to accompany all your summer fun is just around the corner — a little birdie has slipped the WWN the latest from the Weird Sisters! We'll be bringing it to you before it hits the shops, right after these messages."

I find that a great part of the information I have was acquired by looking up something and finding something else on the way. ~ Franklin P. Adams Friday, August 18th ~ Evening

From what Remus had told her, if they managed to find the missing people in the Fae world, it would require a great deal of coordinated efforts on their part to have even a chance of a successful rescue. Glancing around the room, Minerva had to wonder what their chances were. Her eyes lingered for a moment on Luna and she mentally shook her head.

Ravenclaw? I just don't see it, but that's why we have the Sorting Hat.

At least Horace isn't here.

She still didn't see what Doris saw in him, but having him go off to be with her saved Minerva some aggravation so she wasn't going to object. Rising to her feet, Minerva cleared her throat lightly and when the small bit of chattering died down she raised her chin slightly.

"I think we all know why we're here and I'm not going to waste any time expounding on it. Remus? What do you want us to do and how?"

Wednesday, August 16~Late Afternoon

Ever since they'd learned the news of Draco's fate, Lucius and Narcissa had been pouring through their own library on anything they could find on the Fae. It wasn't enough. Not for him. He was a man of action, not content to sit on the sidelines and even though it had been a decade since he'd seen anything one could call eventful, losing his only son was not the way he wanted to get back into action so to speak.

Being Right Too Soon Is Socially Unacceptable. ~ Robert A. Heinlein Tuesday, August 8th ~ Afternoon

Playing with some of her new toys occupied some of Narcissa's time, but she was soon bored and went to find out what her husband was doing. If she had been honest with herself, it would be the fact he was actually there that pulled her to find him.
