- (uncommon) A South American tree (Anadenanthera colubrina), the bark of which contains tannin and is used in tanning hides.

The carob tree (Spanish algarrobo), which might be called the oak of the country, from its slow growth and general aspect, unfortunately docs not possess a bark rich in tannin.
