名詞
overexcess (plural overexcesses)
- A particularly excessive quantity, amount or number; a vast excess of something; the state of being overexcessive.
- 1899, The Los Angeles Sunday Times, Los Angeles Times Communications LLC, page 23:
The best results are seen among the well-to-do, who can afford to give themselves up wholly to the treatment during the few weeks of its application; but they must have sufficient intelligence never to overtax their hearts at any time by overexcesses or overindulgence in any way. - 1911, Luigi Bogliolo, The Los Angeles Daily Times, Los Angeles Times Communications LLC, page 2:
With a commendable desire to avoid all overexcess in decoration, and especially to get away from the usual "gingerbread" typical of the ordinary theater, the Orpheum has gone in for a plainness in its embellishment that is at the same time most gratifying and most restful. Instead of gaudy coloring, there is a harmony of subdued tints. Instead of flashiness, there is a subdued effect of richness and elegance. The atmosphere is not theatric but homelike, cosy and comfortable. Rich, not gaudy, is the idea of the whole scheme, and its success is manifest to one who compares the general effect with that seen in most playhouses. - 1913, F. T. Van Woert, Items of Interest, page 403:
Care should be taken to prevent an overexcess of compound, and to shape it so as to form a slightly conical shape at the point. Again great care should be given to the surface of the compound. See that it is perfectly smooth, free from seams or overlapping fragments, as they are very likely to cause fissures or very fine ridges along the margins, which produce extremely faulty fillings. The smoother and more symmetrical the lines of the margins are, the more perfect will be the union between the inlay and tooth. - 1926, Sarah M. Lockwood, New York, Not So Little and Not So Old, Doubleday, Page & Company, page 95:
General Howe was deeply humiliated by the defeat of his forces. He never again attempted to take Harlem Heights, and from that time on ceased his casual attitude and moved with an overexcess of caution. He had learned to respect his enemy, and to regard with fear the generalship of his adversary. - 1952, Harold J. Stewart, M.D., Cardiac Theraphy, Paul B. Hoeber, Incorporated, page 95:
The patient should be told how to live: long hours of sleep, nutritious food, avoidance of overexcesses, avoidance of exposure to bad weather, avoidance of overheating or chilling, avoidance of swimming in cold water are a few of the recommendations. Every respiratory infection should be treated with care, the patient remaining home in bed during its height. Careful observation for signs of theumatic fever should be made in the period afterward. - 1986, Ellin Dodge, You Are Your Birthday, Simon & Schuster, Incopr, →ISBN, page 358:
You are inclined to dramatics and overexcesses. Be cautious. You have a destiny that makes your dreams come true.
- 1899, The Los Angeles Sunday Times, Los Angeles Times Communications LLC, page 23:
