In this paper I explore the current state of internet safety with regard to teacher education, cu... more In this paper I explore the current state of internet safety with regard to teacher education, curriculum, and educator, parental and student perceptions. I discuss internet security and ethics in an educational and social networking context. Consideration is given to the impact of social technologies on adolescents, the reality of threats, the roles of educators, parents and peers in policing and influencing behaviors, and the impact of technology policies. The conclusion is drawn that as policy and educational methods change slowly, research shows that parents and educators can most immediately and effectively affect online adolescent behaviors.
