Countries including Nigeria, can effectively achieve most of the SDGs (reduce poverty by half, zero hunger and decent work and economic growth) if they emphasise the development of the nature, role and productivity of the private sector. This paper seeks to examine the general relevance of SDGs and assess the role of private sector in achieving SDGs in Nigeria. The methodology adopted is narrative textual; use was made of secondary sources of data to achieve this objective; It is found that, Nigeria is one among the 18 countries that are off track to halve multidimensional poverty by 2030. This is manifest in the high unemployment and dimensionally poor population (Poverty World Headquarters) among other factors, resulting to general low SDGs performance score. It also reveals that, the Nigerian SDGs implementare not strategic in the engagement of the private sector in the implementation of SDGs in Nigeria; low involvement of private sector in the national medium development plan, poor sensitization and awareness about SDGs among private sector operators leading to their non-inclusion of SDGs in the annual plans. It is recommended that, there should be increased strategic private sector engagement in SDGs implementation through awareness and conscious planning.

The research design adopted for the study is descriptive survey with a population of 102 SMEs and a sample size of 102 SMEs was retained through census sampling technique and the primary data was collected via the researcher's designed questionnaire. The study uses regression analysis to test the hypotheses with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study found that; there is a significant positive relationship between access to credit and firm size and same relationship with firm-financial institution relationship. However, access to credit has a negative relationship with loan interest rate. It concludes that the bigger the size of a firm and the closer firms relationship with a financial institution the higher its chances of accesing credit, hence influencing SME growth by boosting the operations of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through increased productivity, while high loan interest constrains access to credit. The study recommends; lowering of loan interest rates by financial institutions, conscious efforts by entrepreneurs to maintain a close relation with financial institutions and careful planning by entrepreneurs to grow the size of their ventures to enhance their access credit.

The paper adopts Narrative Textual Case Study (NTCS) methodology which involves relying on existing literature on entrepreneurship as a concept, economic growth and the relevant government policies that were adopted and still being used to enhance entrepreneurship development. The paper has been able to develop a frame work that shows the interacting relationship between supportive government policy to entrepreneurship development and its effect on poverty and hunger. The paper has discovered that, despite all the efforts put in by government to achieve entrepreneurship development, the result has been failure, thus resulting to high unemployment, low economic growth, increase in poverty and hunger. The researcher upon review of relevant works discovered that, lack of infrastructure; poor programe design, improper implementation, and corruption are the factors responsible for this dismay situation. It therefore recommends a declaration of state of emergency on infrastructure, fight against corruption and a total overhaul of the existing government programs on entrepreneurship development

The main objectives of the study are to; review the role of SMEs to the socioeconomic development of Nigeria, identify current government efforts and challenges to stimulating SMEs performance especially as it relates to wealth creation and employment generation. The study found that; SMEs play a key role in socio economic development of the country especially in the area of employment generation and wealth creation. However, there are prevailing economic and political conditions that have not given room for SMEs to thrive, as evidenced in the internal and external challenging factors they are currently facing in the country despite the enormous government intervention initiatives. It is recommended that government should reform the implementation of these initiatives, ensure programmes continuity due to change on government, fight corruption and insecurity, improve on the business environment and evolve youth reorientation programme to cause them to embrace entrepreneurship. The methodology adopted for this work is narrative textual case study.
