Drawing on the Elite Theory, we investigate the interactions, rivalries, and collaborations between military elites and political leaders within the broader power structures. This framework allows us to analyze elite behavior's motivations, strategies, and consequences on civil-military relations. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, combining secondary data collection and analysis from various sources, including government documents, military records, academic publications, media reports, and prior research studies, our findings reveal a complex interplay of cooperation and conflict between civilian authorities and military institutions. Key issues identified include the military's role in internal security, its influence in political affairs, and the frequent disputes over jurisdiction and authority. The study also highlights periods of reform and attempts at demilitarization, juxtaposed with instances of military intervention and autonomy. Our assessment concludes that despite progress in certain areas, civil-military relations in Nigeria remain fraught with challenges that threaten democratic stability. The interplay of historical legacies, power struggles, and elite interests continues to shape Nigeria's governance and security landscape. While there have been strides towards improving these relations, substantial work remains to achieve a balanced and stable civil-military dynamic. To address these issues, we recommend strengthening democratic institutions to reduce military influence in political affairs and enhancing civilian oversight of the military to ensure accountability and transparency.

The concept of the "poverty cage" refers to the intricate web of systemic barriers that entrap individuals in poverty, restricting access to opportunities for economic advancement and perpetuating a cycle of disadvantage. Understanding the poverty cage requires recognizing the interplay between factors such as inadequate education and skills training, limited employment opportunities, gender disparities, corruption, and political instability, which all contribute to a complex and deeply entrenched problem. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive approach involving policy interventions, such as investing in education and healthcare, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, and implementing programs to increase access to credit and financial services for marginalized groups. Additionally, programs that promote education and employment opportunities for young people, particularly women and girls, are crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting sustainable development. Furthermore, efforts to combat corruption and promote political stability are essential for creating an environment conducive to economic growth and development. Empowering Nigerian youth through entrepreneurship, vocational training, and digital skills development presents opportunities for poverty alleviation and economic growth, highlighting the importance of investing in youth development to create a brighter future for future generations. By addressing these challenges through a comprehensive approach that involves government, civil society, and the private sector, Nigeria can work towards achieving sustainable development and reducing poverty among its youth population.

Over the years, Nigeria's foreign policy has been attributed to being driven by the nation's national interest, which previous research has shown to be obfuscating. Nigeria's foreign policy, historically and currently, is stated to be at odds with what is achieved in other regions, as are her national interests. The article used the idea of state capture as our guidance to accomplish the study's goal. The study uses a qualitative content analysis technique and primarily draws information from secondary sources, including books, journal articles, journals, conference proceedings, websites, etc. The analysis concludes that Nigeria's foreign policy objectives and her country's interests are at odds. Previous research on Nigeria's foreign policy and national interest was based on narrow-minded and jaded views rather than providing advantages to the country's progress. This study examines the necessity of reconsidering a well-reasoned and solid national interest as a prerequisite for a country's foreign policy formulation and execution, filling a vacuum in the literature on foreign policy analysis. Additionally, the administration is always committed and defends the status quo rather than addressing difficulties revealed by many studies on the undeniable disparity between national interest and foreign policy purposes. According to the report, changes are desperately needed to guarantee a well-defined, organized policy for efficacy, efficiency, and transparency.

Despite its significant economic contribution to Nigeria, the region's people have long been marginalized and excluded from the benefits of the region's natural resources. This study examines the importance of national integration and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for promoting unity, cohesion, and social cohesion among diverse ethnic groups. The study also explores the role of political parties in promoting national integration and addressing the region's developmental needs, including corruption, poverty, and environmental degradation. The findings suggest that addressing these challenges will require sustained efforts by government and civil society to promote sustainable development in the region, including infrastructure development, economic empowerment programs, and cultural exchange and dialogue. Ultimately, this study argues that national integration and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region are critical for promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria as a whole.

These resources have enormous potential to promote development and economic progress throughout the continent. However, severe poverty and underdevelopment still plague Africa, with corruption recognized as a critical roadblock to growth. This paper combines case studies from Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe to examine the widespread corruption problem throughout the continent. Based on the Prebendal Theory as its theoretical foundation, the research uses a descriptive and analytical historical approach. The study's conclusions highlight the terrible effects of corruption on the continent's growth, with an estimated 60−60-60−100 billion in losses a year resulting from illegal money flows. These flows exacerbate the pervasive poverty by removing funds from socioeconomic and political progress. The study concludes by highlighting the detrimental impact of corruption on Africa's growth and providing some suggestions for resolving this problem. These include encouraging the appointment of leaders based on merit, implementing stricter laws against bribery, boosting anti-corruption organizations, including the public and civil society in the fight against corruption, and bolstering the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law. These suggestions will clear the path for an accountable and transparent future in Africa.

The study was led by four distinct aims, research questions, and hypotheses. The study proxied capital structure (independent variable) by debt-to-assets ratio, debt-to-equity ratio, long-term debt ratio, and short-term debt ratio. In contrast, market valuation (dependent variable) was measured by market capitalization. The study was anchored on the Trade-off theory, Agency Cost theory, Pecking Order theory, and Miller and Modigliani (M-M) Theory. An ex post facto research design was used in the investigation. The study used panel data collected from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) Fact Book. The data analysis technique adopted was the Panel Least Square (PLS) regression technique. The hypotheses formulated were tested at a 5% significance level using p-values obtained from the regression analysis. The findings of the study showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between debt-to-assets ratio and market capitalization, there is a positive and significant relationship between debt-to-equity ratio and market capitalization, there is a positive and significant relationship between long-term debt ratio and market capitalization, and lastly, there is a positive and significant relationship between short-term debt ratio and market capitalization of quoted agricultural firms in Nigeria. The study concluded that capital structure positively and significantly affects the market valuation of quoted agricultural firms in Nigeria. Among others, It was recommended that agricultural firms use more of a long-term debt ratio as it increases their market valuation. Also, agricultural firms in Nigeria should continue to strategically plan and manage their debt structure to improve their profitability and market valuation.

The study's main objective is to examine the impact of Treasury management strategies on bank performance, using the First Bank of Nigeria as a case study. The variables of the study are Treasury management strategies (Treasury bill, asset liability management, and cash management strategies) as its independent variable and bank performance (return on asset, return on equity, and return on shareholders' fund) as its dependent variable. Econometric techniques, including Augmented Dickey-Fuller and PP for unit root tests, Johansson co-integration technique for a long run relationship, Granger causality test, and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression analysis were used to test the nine hypotheses. The study revealed that although investment in the Treasury bill has a positive effect on Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Return on Shareholders' Fund (ROSF), its serving conditions are adverse to the banks' performance. This position is even aggravated by the unfavorable policies made by regulatory authorities. The study also reveals that asset liability management does not significantly affect Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Shareholders' Fund (ROSF). The study thus concludes that cash management strategies do not have a significant effect on return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), and return on shareholders' funds (ROSF) and do not increase performance. Among the recommendations is that regulatory bodies should formulate policies to enhance interest rates for investment and strong management bodies to regulate the banks' assets and cash to boost productivity and performance.

Four research questions and four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive-correlation research design was used to conduct the study. The population of this study consisted of all academic staff of federal universities in Nigeria. Two (2) federal schools were randomly selected by simple random from the study population. The study sample was made up of 200 respondents (both male and female workers). A structured questionnaire was used for the data collection. The bio-data of the respondents were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency counts, z-test, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical tool, which were used to analyze the hypotheses raised at 0.05 level of significance. Two null hypotheses were rejected, and two alternative hypotheses were accepted. The findings revealed that the Promotion of academic staff when due does not affect their commitment to work. There is a positive relationship between academic staff's conducive working environment and their job engagement. There is no relationship between giving admission slot and other fringe benefits to academic staff and their loyalty to the school management, and Academic staff work-life balance considerations do affect their creativity/professionalism. Based on the findings of this study, some recommendations were stated, among which are: Federal universities should ensure that promotion is given based on merit and also as at when due, not by who is loyal to the system or management. The management should also ensure that admission slots and other fringe benefits be given to academic staff as incentives to motivate them on their engagement, but this should be checked frequently, as it could also lead to academic staff misusing the opportunity or exploiting students looking for admission.

Econometric techniques, including Augmented Dickey-Fuller and P.P. for unit root tests, Johansson co-integration technique for a long-run relationship, Granger causality test, and Ordinary Least Square (O.L.S.) regression analysis was used to test the four hypotheses. The study revealed that although external debt stock has a positive effect on economic development, its serving conditions are opposed to the standard of living of an average Nigerian. This position is even aggravated by the unfavorable exchange rate experienced by Nigerian citizens. The study also reveals that the proportion of external borrowing expended on infrastructural development does not significantly affect Nigeria's economic growth. The study thus concludes that external debt harms Nigeria's economic growth and has not helped improve Nigeria's standard of living (per capita income). Among the recommendations is that the nation should commit its external borrowing on priority projects capable of generating revenue that will not only produce a favorable servicing platform but also free resources for improving the standard of living of an average Nigerian citizen.

Industrial relations describe the interaction between employers and employees inside an organization. It covers various topics, including working conditions, rules about the workplace, and resolving issues. The seamless operation of organizations and the general economic prosperity of a nation depend heavily on the efficient management of labor. The foundation of the investigation was the Unitarist Theory. Unitarist Theory's emphasis on collaboration and cooperation between management and employees makes it relevant to studying how industrial relations affect effective labor management in Nigeria. In Nigeria, where labor-management interactions are frequently marked by distrust and conflict, a unitarist approach can facilitate improved communication and collaboration between the two groups. Organizations may enhance labor-management procedures and foster a more positive work atmosphere by acknowledging management and employees' shared objectives and interests. According to the study, industrial relations in Nigeria have a beneficial impact on labor-management effectiveness. In the study's conclusion, industrial relations are critical in Nigeria's efficient labor management system, essential for preserving a peaceful and prosperous work environment. The interaction that exists in the workplace between employers, employees, and the government is referred to as industrial relations. According to the report, Nigeria's labor laws must be updated and reviewed to ensure they are fair, thorough, and compliant with international norms. This covers clauses about minimum pay, hours worked, workplace safety and health, and safeguards against wrongful termination. For Nigerian labor to be managed effectively, industrial relations are essential. They offer an organized framework for resolving conflicts at work, encouraging collaboration between employers and employees, and defending the rights of employees. Industrial relations promote stakeholder trust and cooperation, which drives productivity, work satisfaction, and overall economic development.

Abstract: This paper discusses the theoretical underpinnings, analysis, design, and implementatio... more Abstract: This paper discusses the theoretical underpinnings, analysis, design, and implementation of performance tools and systems. Performance management tools are software applications that track individual, team, or organizational productivity. In contrast, a performance management system is a standardized process that provides feedback to management on how an organization’s employees perform. Theories of performance management serve as the foundation for performance management. They are crucial to organizational behavior and human resource management because they assist employers in leading and motivating their workforces. A critical evaluation of what performance tools and system entails revealed that it is a way of helping employees and managers achieve their goals and improve their work quality. According to the results, it is advised to consider the following ideas: Managers should encourage staff members to speak up and provide regular feedback to their managers. They should use goal-setting tools to help them define targets and key results and match their own goals with those of the organization. You may create a culture of trust and ongoing improvement by using this strategy. Finally, managers should recognize and praise employees socially for any contribution that they have made to the organization.

This is because democracy cannot flourish and prosper unless information management and distribution are likewise democratized and liberated from excessive governmental control. Over the years, the Nigerian media has responded to the developing political, economic, and social concerns effectively. However, in the democratic movement in Nigeria, journalists were frequently seen as adversaries of the state. They are frequently intimidated, muzzled, and imprisoned because of this. This essay examines the role of the media in the practice and growth of democracy in Nigeria using data from documentary sources. The Libertarian, Communist, and Social Responsibility Theories are all in the essay. These theories were chosen on purpose since one theory cannot solve the difficulties being examined separately, necessitating many theories. The paper makes the case that issues with the complete application and enforcement of press freedom, noncompliance with the Freedom of Information Act, the welfare and well-being of journalists, and proprietorial influences, as well as the belief on the part of some politicians and political office holders that the media is their enemy because it exposes them, are the main obstacles preventing the media from playing an influential role in Nigeria's democratic practice. This article urges governments at all levels to cultivate a culture of moderation toward the media to support and defend press freedom. Furthermore, if there is no interference with the press by the government, there would be transparency and responsiveness in governance since the media will constantly check the government's actions. This will aid in the growth and strengthening of democracy in Nigeria.

A probability sampling technique was used to issue out questionnaires to 60 managers randomly chosen from the Ministries of Justice, Information and Orientation, Works and Infrastructure, Health, Education, Science and Technology, Agriculture, and Environment. 33% of the respondents where female while the other 67% male. Four top management executives were also interviewed. The data from the questionnaires were analysed using the Likert scale of intervals. The results indicated that only 14% of the selected sample population knew about the concept of emotional intelligence. This relatively low awareness of the concept is responsible for the low levels of staff motivation and productivity in the state civil service. The findings also showed that the application of emotional intelligence positively translates to improved product / service delivery while managers who have a high emotional intelligence enjoy a more committed and effective workforce. In conclusion a recommendation was made to the Bayelsa State Government to pass into law a policy to train and retrain managers of the service. Personal efforts should be made by managers to build these emotional competences.
