It is particularly common in populations living in malaria-endemic areas. The aim of this study is to molecularly screen G6PD enzyme among deficient children (aged 0-5 years) with Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Katsina State, North-western Nigeria, and a region with no any molecular information on G6PD enzyme. A total of 200 blood samples were collected from children with Plasmodium falciparum malaria attending six selected hospitals located across the three senatorial zones of the state from March 2015 to May 2015. G6PD deficiency was detected qualitatively using G6PD screening test. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) of 7 samples (6 deficient and 1 control) shows the presence of G202A mutation in all the samples. The nucleotides sequence obtained from sequencing reaction of one deficient and one control samples are 97% homologous to other G6PD genes of different strains. This study has indicated a hig...

Although widely believed to be an SNR shell with a blow- out region in the south, we consider the possibility that this object is two SNRs projected along the same line-of-sight by using multi-wavelength images and modelling. Our results show that a model of two objects including some overlap region/interaction between the two objects has the best match to the observed data.

The analysis was conducted using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. An experiment per species was designed with twenty replicas (ten each with polluted and control soils obtained from Modoji village in Katsina town). The mean concentrations of the metals range from 0.25 mg/kg Cd to 46.16 Fe and 0.011 mg/kg Cd to 13.61 mg/kg Fe for plants grown in the contaminated and control soils respectively. The bioaccumulation factors (BAC>1) indicates metal contamination of the soils and thus can be used for their phytoextraction. The result suggests that the investigated plants are potentially useful for remediating heavy metals from Challawa contanimated soils

Discussion on origin and evolution of its diverse cultivars remain contentious. Therefore, determining the cultivars molecular evolutionary relationship based on a flowering gene(s) using bioinformatics approach continues to be an area to explore and it is of significant value. Here, we examined the molecular phylogeny of 24 rice cultivars centered on established Heading date 3a (Hd3a) florigen accessions, then predict its three-dimensional (3D) model. Hd3a accessions were collected which comprised 12 indica, 12 japonica, and single wild-type and analyzed for an evolutionary relationship. The protein 3D structures were predicted using I-TASSER server and validated using Ramachandran plot, ERRAT plot, and VERIFY 3D. The genes appeared to be highly conserved and functional. Most indica cultivars form a separate group and signpost close relation with the wild-type rice. Whereas,...

As a result, the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) approach was used to investigate these barriers. Furthermore, a partial least square structural equation model was used to build a model of these barriers (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe EFA results revealed that the above-noted factors are in a close relation with three key components, i.e. social, economic and communication. In addition, the proposed model results found the social barrier a key challenge to the implementation of CC.Research limitations/implicationsThe results from this study can help decision-makers to improve the approaches regarding...
Phytoremediation is considered as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly technique for dec... more Phytoremediation is considered as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly technique for decontaminating environments that have been contaminated with heavy metal ions. The technique describes the use of plants and their concomitant microbes to mitigate environmental contaminations. However, conventional remediation techniques like chemical, thermal and physical treatment methods are too costly, and may end of causing more contamination to the environment. Phytoremediation practice provides a major information on the utilization of plants and their materials in decontaminating polluted environments. Heavy metals and other organic contaminants are among the most precarious substances released into the environment which have an eminent level of toxicity and sturdiness of both aquatic and terrestrial organisms. The review aimed at providing a broad understanding of utilizing various plants and their materials in decontaminating polluted environments with heavy metals and other org...

The BIM software gives a digital representation of how the building will be after construction. The digital model can be used at preliminary stage for planning and design, at construction stage for construction and at pre-completion stage for the building operation and maintenance. This model, helps the engineers, constructors and architects identify the likely problems that may occur through the generated model of the intended facility in a virtual environment. A total of “108” conference papers, referred journal articles and other academic sources were analysed based on their relevance and research focus. This article gives a review on the implementation of Building information modelling (BIM) over building life cycles with a view of addressing the challenges and future research prospects. An increasing reliance on the use of medicinal plants in societies has been traced to the extraction and development of several drugs from these plants. Standard procedure for analysis of phytocompounds that which is based on color formation or disappearance and bacterial activity was adopted. nhexane extract shows the presence of phlobatannins, flavanoids, volatile oil, glycoside, and saponins and terpenoids also shows the absence of Alkaloid, phenols, glycoside (general), resins, and tannins while in the water extract shows the presence of Alkaloid, saponins, terpenoids, volatile oil, and the presence of tannins, glycoside, anthraquinones, resins, phlobatannins, phenols, and absence of flavanoids. In antibacterial activity (Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, E. coli, and Streptococcus pneumonia) shows no inhibition in the n-hexane extract while in water extracts, Staphy...

Rice is a model plant for molecular studies and pertinent for flowering development analysis. Rice Flowering Locus T1 (RFT1) is the second rice florigen which promotes flowering under long-day (LD) condition. This study investigates the correlation between RFT1 gene established accessions towards an expansion of rice cultivation areas in Asia using bioinformatics tools. Fourteen (14) different RFT1 accessions were collected including 9 indica and 5 japonica, and analyzed for molecular evolution. Also, the protein 3-dimensional (3D) structure were predicted and validated. The genes appeared to be highly conserved and functional across the diverse accessions. Cultivars from the two sub-species form a separate subgroup except for Koshihikari, Akamai and Nara aswari which form a major group, while Basmati370 was in the same clade with japonica cultivars. The 3D model indicated that the protein accessions has slight differences and VERIFY 3D model refinement has the best stereochemistry score at 99.38. The study clarified on the cultivars' evolutionary relationships and suggested that diverse functional RFT1 variants is crucial for expansion of rice cultivation areas.

The mean concentrations of heavy metals in soil samples are as follows, Fe (21.31 mg/Kg), Zn (0.20 mg/Kg), Cd(1.58 mg/Kg),Cr(2.3mg/Kg) and Pb (36.10 mg/Kg). The concentration of heavy metals in samples increased in the following order, Fe > Pb > Cr > Cd > Zn. The mean values for some physiochemical parameters of the water samples are; pH (5.7), moisture (36.1), the concentrations of heavy metals in water samples were less than the permissible limits for heavy metals in soils set by USEPA / WHO.

The stem bark extract of the plant was investigated for phytochemical screening and In vitro anti-malarial bioassay using nhexane, chloroform, ethylacetate and methanol solvent fractions. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, tannins, saponins anthraquinones and carbohydrates. The bioassay results showed that, nhexane fraction have the highest percentage of parasite elimination of 91.8% at 5000µg/ml lower than the standard antimalarial drug (artemesinin combine treatment) with 92.8% at 5000µg/ml concentrations. Thus, it can be concluded that, further research on the plant may lead to the discovery of new potential anti-malarial drug in near future.
