To overcome the lack of innovative and interdisciplinary environments devoted to the teaching of contemporary science, the institutions of higher education should apply for the grants offered by national agencies to develop effective activities in the basic school. This is necessary to promote a scientific literacy in every level of education. In the midst of the different educational challenges, several actions and initiatives to improve the teachers training in the primary and secondary education, in various areas of knowledge, are under debate by the Brazilian Government. In this context, we highlight the program of support for interdisciplinary laboratories of educators' qualification (LIFE), which aims to select proposals for creating interdisciplinary teacher training laboratories. This article presents a proposal for t...

It can be classified as a synchronous communication tool that allows communities of people with similar interests to discuss and exchange experiences in real time, promoting the sharing of information and the creation of collective knowledge, even if they being in different parts of the globe. In this paper we show that Facebook can be used as an educational tool to aid the work done in the classroom and the impact of creating closed groups in online social networking for educational purposes. The survey was conducted with a group of students at a private school in Bauru/SP. We investigated the interaction profile of students with a closed group created on Facebook and through a questionnaire analyzed whether students use virtual environments for personal or educational. The survey reveals students perceptions about relevant aspects and the potential use of this tool as teaching-learning strategy.

Such developments gain notoriety with the advent of new technologies of information and communication (NTIC), bringing new horizons for educational practices. ICTs in the future will be based on emerging technologies that will integrate and articulate knowledge from different areas of knowledge in an interdisciplinary manner in educational proposals. These disruptive technologies tend to provide significant advances in areas such as: technology information, holography, nanotechnology, biotechnology, cognitive science, robotics and artificial intelligence. Among this range of possibilities, including technologies capable of express representations of reality or imagination, sometimes difficult to abstraction. In this context, holography and virtual reality meet methodological assumptions that act in an active w...

Regarding the case of graphene, Marzari et al. [1] displayed the calculated WFs and presented a comparison between the Wannierinterpolated bands and the bands generated by using the density-functional code. Jung and MacDonald [2] provided a tight-binding model for the π-bands of graphene that involves maximally localized Wannier functions (MLWFs). The mixing of the bands yields better localized WFs [3]. In the present work, the MLWFs of graphene are calculated by combining the Quantum-ESPRESSO code and tight-binding approach. The MLWFs of graphene are calculated from the Bloch functions obtained through a tight binding approach that includes interactions and overlapping obtained by partially fitting the DFT bands. The phase of the Bloch functions of each band is appropriately chosen to produce MLWFs. The same thing applies to the coefficients of their linear combination in the generalized case. The method allows for an intuitive understanding of the maximally localized WFs of graphene and shows excellent agreement with the literature. Moreover, it provides accurate results at reduced computational cost. [1] N.

However, their teaching continues to pose major challenges. In Brazil, the educational proposals that deal with concepts of N&N in the context of basic education are still incipient, although they are present in students’ lives. This situation may be attributed to several factors, but mainly to the fact that teacher-training courses do not systematically include the necessary methodological basis for teaching such current and relevant topics of science. The articulation of this content with innovative and motivating approaches is essential to improve learning at the High School. We present an educational proposal of N&N-related themes, through a playful activity: the game called as Caza-Nano. This has been designed to improve the use of scientific notation and understanding of the order of magnitude and the learning of topics of contemporary science. In this regard, the i...

This is done in a concise way that may improve the understanding of hybrid orbitals. The fact that maximally localized Wannier functions of crystalline materials may resemble hybrid orbitals is discussed.
